Curricular Statement
Understanding that the perpendicular bisectors of all chords of a circle
pass through the centre of the circle
Content Analysis
Terms : Chords of the circles.
Facts : 1. The perpendicular bisector of the line joining any pair of
points on a circle meets at a point.
2. The perpendicular bisectors of all chords of a circle pass
through the centre of the Circle.
3. A line joining any two points on a circle is the chord of the
circle.
Concept : The concept of the chords of a circle.
Principle : The perpendicular bisectors of all chords of a circle pass
through the centre of the Circle.
Definition: A line joining any pair of points on a circle is called a chord
of the circle.
Process : The process of finding the perpendicular bisectors of all
chords of a circle pass through the centre of the circle.
Learning Outcomes:
Pupil,
1. Remembering information of a chord.
2. Develops, understanding to finding the chord.
3. Applying the above information in familiar situations.
4. Analyzing the information to explore understanding and
relationships.
5. Justify the above concepts and formulae.
6. Creating new ideas related to the above concepts.
7. Develops skill in finding the above concepts.
8. Develops interest in finding the above concepts.
Prerequisites: centre of a circle, perpendicular bisector.
Teaching learning resources: Slide
Classroom interaction procedure Pupils responses
Preparation:
Teacher asked the question about the
circles and center of the circle to check the
previous knowledge of students.
What is perpendicular bisector?
Asked about the chords and features of the
chords.

Development:
Teacher divided the students in various
groups. Then wanted to draw a circle that
passes through two points A and B.

A. B

And also mark the 'O' as the centre of circle.

Teacher asked to join the AB and also draw the
perpendicular bisector of the chord. Then mark
the another two points C and D and draw the
bisector in each chord.

A B

D

From the figure they understood the concept
that the bisectors of the two chords meet at a
point. That point is the centre of the circle.

After that, teacher shows the slide with the
concept of the bisectors of chords.

Students read the slide and understand the
concept.

Application:
Teacher gives a question for evaluating
the students who have understood the concept.
Draw three chords on a circle and also
draw the perpendicular bisectors on each
of them?

Review:
What is the speciality of a bisector of chord in a circle?
Follow up activities:
1. Draw a circle with 4cm radius and draw the perpendicular
bisectors of three chords on the circle?
2. Draw a circle with 3cm radius and draw the perpendicular
bisectors of three chords on the circle?
