ABSTRACT

FATMAWATI, 2014.The research entitled The influence of Discuss Method in


little Group for Teaching of write Short Story to the Nineth Year Students of
SMPN 1 Plumbon Kabupaten Cirebon
Thesis. Department of Indonesian Education Progran of Postgrduate work
University Swadaya Gunung Jati Cirebon.
This research focused on analyzing the ability to write short stories ninth
class students of SMP Negeri 1 Plumbon. The problems discussed in this research
are : 1) How does the process of implementation of learning using small group
discussion method of learning to write short stories in ninth class students of SMP
Negeri 1 Plumbon Kabupaten Cirebon?; 2) How does the activity of ninth class
students of SMP Negeri 1 Plumbon Kabupaten Cirebon in learning to write short
stories using small group discussions method?; 3) How does the influence of
small group discussion method of learning to write short stories in ninth class
students of SMP Negeri 1 Plumbon Kabupaten Cirebon?.
The subjects were ninth class students of SMP Negeri 1 Plumbon
consisted of 32 people. The research object of the ability to write short stories
based on personal experiences. The research instrument is the observation sheet
activities of teachers and students, and test students' skills in writing short stories.
Data collected include : (1) teacher and student activity data, and (2) the data
values in the students' ability to write short stories. The collected data were
analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis.
The results of research indicate that (1) an increase in the implementation
of learning to write short stories, which include increased activity of teachers and
students, the learning process effectively classified with a score of 77; (2)
increase students' ability to write a short story with the acquisition of the highest
value in the experimental class scored 83.44, while the lowest value 74; (3) there
is an influence on small group discussion method for students' ability in writing
short stories. This research also proves that the results obtained from the
comparison with the statistical calculation of 14,870 t test, this proves that the
method of discussion very significant effect in increasing the average value and
the ability to write short stories ninth class students of SMP Negeri 1 Plumbon.
Based on the results obtained, then be submitted suggestions for
Indonesian teachers to use small group discussion method as an alternative in
learning to improve the ability to write short stories, because this method can
generate motivation, foster interest and imagination of students' creativity in
expressing the potential of students in writing. In this method of learning with the
teacher acting as a facilitator in the classroom so that all students can be active
and continue to participate, interact, and collaborate and to improve learning
outcomes.
