Land Preparation
1. Prepare the land thoroughly by plowing and harrowing.
2. High raised beds are advisable to prevent waterlogging.
Make 1 m wide bed of 30 cm height and a distance of
2.5m to 3m.
3. Mulching of beds is recommended to conserve soil
moisture as well as reduce the cost of weeding
throughout the cropping season.
4. Make 20 cm deep hole in the middle of the bed at 3 m
distance between rows.
5. Fill the hole with 1-2 kg manure and place basal
fertilizer of 25 g 21-0-0 plus 50 g 14-14-14.
6. If bed making is not possible make sure to provide
good drainage because waterlogging could easily
reduce plant population.
Seedling Production and Management
1. Soak the seeds in clean water for 5 days and change
the water daily.
2. Sow the seeds in the seedling trays using the sowing
mixture of sand and coir dust at 1:3 ratio.
3. Drench Proplant or Previcur after sowing or after
pricking at 40ml/16L of water.
4. 2 days after germination, transfer (prick) each seedling
to polyethylene bags (2.5"x5") containing 3:1:1/2:1/2
coir dust, sand, sterilized garden soil and sterilized
manure, respectively.

Transplanting
1. 1100 to 1340 plants are needed per hectare, depending
on the distance of planting.
2. Transplant late in the afternoon, remove the plastic bag
with the root intact into the soil.
3. Fill the hole completely with topsoil.
4. Replanting should be done after 1 week to replace
missing hills.
5. If possible, drench with Proplant at 40ml/6L of water of
Alliete at 50g/16L of water after transplanting.

Irrigation
1. Irrigate weekly during dry season.
2. If there is no bed, provide enough drainage by making
canals near the base.
3. When fruits are already maturing, water should be kept
to the minimum to hasten fruit maturity.

Harvesting
1. Harvest the fruits when a tinge of yellow start to
appear between the apical ridges or approximately 9
months after transplanting.
2. Harvest between 9 am 3 pm to minimize latex flow
that may cause injury to the peel.
3. Avoid dropping of the fruit to minimize fruit injury and
rotting.
4. Place the fruit in a padded container to minimize
bruising.
