HP PTT

Nextel
NEXTEL PERU
Nextel Peru already finished the deployment of its UMTS (3G) Network.
It allows to provide new services to the customers, like:
Call & Videocall
VAS services
Broadband connection
Smartphones
NEW SERVICES = MAYOR REVENUE GENERATING OPPORTUNITIES
HP-PTT
High Performance Push To Talk
Qualcomm already desing a solution for
HP-PTT using a 3G Network, it is called
QCHAT.
The QChat provides a method of instant
connection and two-way communication
between users.
The handsets and server software allow
users to connect instantaneously with
other Qchat users.
Enables one-to-one (private) and one-to-
many (group) calls over the 3G Networks.
Dynamic management of group
membership by subscribers.
HP-PTT
Ad hoc creation of chat groups on the handset, in addition to
the standing groups that an administrator may establish.

QChat is able to interoperate with iDEN push-to-talk handsets
on the Nextel National Network.
QChat
How QChat Works

QChat users can connect to each
other worldwide, in either private
or group calls, with the simple
push of a button like iDEN. It uses
voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
technologies to allow subscribers
to communicate by using a PTT
button.

QChat calls are created by
combining separate point-to-point
connections between each IP
endpoint; the process is managed
by the QChat Applications Server,
which is deployed on the carriers
IP-based Wide Area Network
(WAN).
USIM
One of the keys for Qchat service is the SIM Card information, if there
isnt this parameters HP-PTT service is not posible. Those parameters
are needed for QChat

Username Defined in QChat DB
Alternative Address 1 UFMI
Alternative Address 2 PTN
Call Type Capability Barring/unbarring
Network Domain ID Operator
Call Restrictions Restrictions

In other hand, the Device Information for HPPTT service is a very
important part of the System. The Device parameters can be divided in:

Dev Info
Dev Detail
FUMO
HPPTTFF
HPPTT Defaults
HPPTT UserDef
Qchat Client
IMEI Tracking
Subscriber swaps the devices
removes the SIM card from one
device and puts it in another
compatible device.
1
SIM based IMEI tracking applet detects
the new IMEI after a swap and triggers a
mobile originating SMS to the OTA server
with the new information

If needed OTA server
initiates OMA-CP session to
update the device settings

NII Network
SmartTrust OTA
DM server
OTA Events (SIM and OMA-DM
based transactions)
The OTA server registers the new IMEI
information for that subscription
The IMEI is checked against a
database of devices and their
capabilities (TCR) by the server
For a standard 3G device, if the
subscription has device compatible
services available, the OTA server
initiates a device settings update to
provision the device
The use case captures the standard 3G behaviour
In the event a SIM is exchanged between a Qchat device and a
non-Qchat device, additional scenarios need to be addressed.
The new IMEI is also sent to the IT billing system for
synchronization
(NOTE: The next slide captures all such possible cases.)
Provisioning Flow

BSS
SmartTrust OTA
DM server
Customer buys a
HPPTT device from
a Point of Sale.
1
3
BSS system adds the device, provisions the network
elements (HLR, VAS, AAA, QAS, U/G Database etc) to
enable voice, data and other services
2
Qchat client goes
online upon successfully
provisioning of all
mandatory elements and
registers with the QAS
server
6
After successfully
provisioning the network
elements, BSS provisions
the OTA subsystem with
subscriber profile including
Qchat parameters needed
to activate the service
3
OTA generates a profile for the
MSISDN, HPPTT and sends all the SIM
profile parameters to the SIM via SMS

User powers on device
CPA reads mandatory
factory flash and user
parameters from SIM, if
available, provisions them
to the Qchat client

A SIM update is followed by a SIM refresh
causing the device to read all SIM updates.
CPA reads all Qhcat user data sent via OTA
and begins provisioning the Qchat client
with the same.
5
Any Qchat provisioning
return codes are sent back
via client initiated OMA-
DM session

6
Any additional Qchat
updates captured on the
DM tree are pushed via
the OMA-DM session

OTA Benefits
Increased data services ARPU
Device is always properly provisioned,
reprovisioned and/or configured with
correct settings via various channels
auto-detection, care, campaigns
Improved Customer Satisfaction
No more repeated calls to care for lost
settings or inability to configure services.
No more device returns and visits to retail
stores. Seamless roaming experience
increased customer loyalty.
Process Simplification &
Standardization
A single platform to manage all device portfolio in
a simplified and standard way. A single interface
for care with powerful tools for OTA management
and for subscribers to perform basic operations
via established OTA channels and processes.
Reduced operational and
support costs
Significant reduction in calls to customer
care. Provisioning triggered by
automatic device detection, mass
campaign to update/fix device issues and
firmware updates reduce operational
costs over time
Improved Qchat Experience
In the case of NIIs 3G where the
network is still in the early stages,
having FOTA capability is critical to
performing updates for Qchat as the
technology and user requirements
evolve.
