Disciplina con amor en el aula

Tocando el corazón de tus alumnos. Guía para maestros Rosa Barocio

Summary

What happened to students who used to respect and admire their teachers? What does it mean to be a good teacher? Do they come prepared every day? Are they popular with the students? Being a good teacher has

never been easy, but in this day and age, teaching has become an even greater challenge. Anyone can stand in front of a group of students and call themselves a teacher, but only a handful merit the name. To be a teacher

in its entirety is a privilege that you earn through assisting your students' growth while helping them apply

themselves. Our society urges teachers to be flexible, open, and interested in a world with rapidly changing technology and how it is applied in the classroom. Rosa Barocio, with practical advice and a sense of humor, dedicates this book to teachers invested in revamping their teaching styles and not settling to be a great teacher, but an extraordinary one. They understand the responsibility they hold and that since their students

look up to them, it's their job to inspire them.

Bugs, Bogs, Bats, and Books: Sharing Nature with Children Through Reading

Kathleen T. Isaacs

Summary

Reading a book before or after a trip to the zoo, a nighttime look at the stars, or a walk in the forest can connect children to nature while inspiring discussion and questions. Teacher and librarian Kathleen T. Isaacs spotlights recent titles appropriate for children ages up to 10 that will help parents and caregivers encourage children's wonder and enthusiasm for nature. Themed chapters such as "Nature Encounters," "Backyard and Garden," "From the Earth to the Sky and Beyond," "Naturalists," "Habitats," "Plants and Trees," "Animals," and "Books for Babies and Toddlers" identify picture books on nature-related subjects that kids love. Isaacs also offers supplemental science activities that adults and children can do together, such as a backyard bird count and hands-on projects with leaves and flowers. The hundreds of picture books listed and annotated in this resource will enrich the joy and excitement of nature for readers of all ages.

Finding Joy and Meaning in Words Laura Rose

Summary

Teachers and parents can significantly improve children's comprehension, enjoyment, and personal involvement in reading at any grade level by using the series of activities provided in this book. Because the ability to imagine is a key skill that many struggling readers often lack, this book outlines strategies to teach students how to add vivid mental pictures to their reading. In a clearly designed set of lessons, students are taken through a series of steps-drawing on the images they see in their minds, prompted by memories recalled through sensory connections and powerful events, and listening to richly descriptive texts-to learn how to create visual images when reading. The lessons in this book are scripted, so teachers can begin using the activities immediately. Included are relaxation exercises designed to ease students into the reading process.

The Reading Lesson (2nd Edition)

Teach Your Child to Read in 20 Easy Lessons Michael Levin, Charan Langton

Based on phonics and whole language skills, this method advances children ages 3 to 8 from knowing their alphabet to reading second-grade-level picture books.

Summary

The Reading Lesson is a bestselling program that teaches young children to read in 20 easy lessons. It is designed as a step-by-step course for parents who want to teach their young children to read at home. The teaching method is based on phonics and key-word recognition, and with its innovative and guided approach, the 20 step-by-step lessons provide an easy-to-follow recipe for teaching children to read. Developed by pediatrician Michael Levin, the program has also been used successfully for children with disabilities.

How do I use the Reading Lesson?

There are twenty lessons in this book. Each lesson takes about two weeks to complete (with about 15 minutes of study per day). Before starting a lesson, we suggest that you read the instructions for that lesson. Each lesson begins with an introduction and a description of how to proceed. For example, lesson two introduces the letters "m", "d", and "r". At the beginning of the lesson, there is an introduction with some words of advice and thoughts on how to go through the sounds of those letters and how to read them in words.

The Book of Beginning Circle Games

John M. Feierabend

Summary

These wonderful games to play in circles have been passed down from generation to generation and are full of music, wonder, magic, and make-believe. Some of these circle games are stationary games in which one child chases after another while the rest of the group does not move, while others begin with stationary circles but end with traveling circles as, one by one, children join a group moving around the circle. All of these games encourage a variety of developmentally appropriate behaviors, including social skills, cognitive development, creativity, language development, motor skills, and musical skills. Some of the favorite songs included are "Muffin Man," "Charlie over the Ocean," "The Farmer in the Dell," "Allee Galloo," and "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush."
