ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF

CURRICULAM
INTRODUCTION: -
Todays nurse must function as generalist dealing with the problems of
each patient separately whether he has mental surgical or medical problems,
whether he is an infant, a child, an adolescent or an adult and whether he is in
the hospital or at home or in the clinic, and at the same time she must have a
unity of nursing care focused on the total care of patients.
Therefore curriculum for the preparation of a nurse who can carry out
these professional functions humanely and competently must be developed.
DEFINITION OF CURRICULAM: -
` Curriculum is a systematic arrangement of the sum total of selected
experience planned by a school for a defined group of students to attain the aims
of a particular educational rogramme.

Curriculum is the sum total of student activities which the school sponsors

LEVELS OF CURRICULAM PLANNING: -
There are three levels of curriculum planning identified in relation to the

Curriculum is based on philosophy and purposes of school and its
construction re8uired an understanding of educational psychology together with
9nowledge and s9ill in principle and practice of nursing education. 0t should be
drawn up by the curriculum committee, so that all members will be familiar with
its ob'ectives, its contents, how the sub'ects are related to one another and how
they contribute to the over all purpose of the rogramme.
CURRICULAM COMMITTEE: -
0t is a committee consisting of members who actively participate in the
development or construction of curriculum for their school.
The construction of nursing curriculum is the responsibility of the /chool of
#ursing: College of nursing. 0t varies from school to school or from college to
college. The curriculum includes all the sub'ect matter and experiences, which a
particular school: college of nursing plans to offer and which is developed by the
member of its own curriculum committee.

The philosophy is the one of the lost important document of the
curriculum. /ince it directs and guides the curriculum committee in the
development of curriculum. 0t reflects current and future needs. The statement of
belief with in the philosophy will influence ever curriculum decision.

The purpose of the rogramme is usually broad statement of rogramme.

member and relate to preparing the professional practitioner.

hilosophy is a belief or a way of life. hilosophy of the college reflects the
beliefs of those who comprise the college the trustees, faculty,
administrators, students and the community. The philosophy of the college
is usually reflected in the ob'ectives of the nursing program.

hilosophy and ob'ectives of the nursing program should be developed by
the faculty of the nursing unit should be in harmony with the philosophy of
the institution of which it is a part.
ADMINISTRATOR FACILITATES THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE
PHILOPSOPH' AND OB&ECTIVES OF THE NURSING UNIT: -
