cellularnetworksusedbymobilephones.Itisthedefactoglobalstandardformobilecommunicationswithover
90%marketshare,andisavailableinover219countriesandterritories.
TheGSMstandardwasdevelopedasareplacementforfirstgeneration(1G)analogcellularnetworks,andoriginally
describedadigital,circuitswitchednetworkoptimizedforfullduplexvoicetelephony.Thiswasexpandedover
timetoincludedatacommunications,firstbycircuitswitchedtransport,thenpacketdatatransportviaGPRS
