Welding procedure specifications (WPS)
The optimized process dependant input structure makes weldassistant a self-explanatory, user friendly system for
saving the user time and money. You compile a professional code conform WPS according EN and ASME IX quickly,
and to the highest quality. Fundamental data, such as the most important parent materials and welding fillers are
contained in weldassistant.
You select the parent material and weldassistant offers a choice of filler material if available.
Data is available for most welding parameters. Copying of welding diagrams and the passes within a welding
procedure specification simplifies and optimizes the creation of the welding plan.

WPQR / PQR Administration
In WPQR / PQR Administration you retain an overview of the ranges of approval of your process certifications
independent to the code. The current status of the process certifications is immediately recognizable at a glance due
to the "traffic light" functions. The allocation of several areas of validity to one process certification makes the
administration very flexible. Adjust your 10 different print layouts based on your requirements.

Welding costs calculation
Through the welding cost calculation you are given an overview of the costs of the planned welding. By comparing
several welding processes or welding tasks next to each other, cost comparisons can be made quickly and
transparently.

Welder qualifications administration according EN
With the welder qualifications - administration facility, you have a permanent overview of the welders and their
certifications with the comfort of an optimized input structure. The current status of the welder qualifications is
immediately recognizable at a glance by means of the "traffic light" function.

Create welder certifications according EN
Welder qualification is the foundation of good welding. The corresponding welder certification can be created quickly
and easily and is linked with the welder qualification administration.

Plug-ins
Well-known manufacturers make their product data or advanced information available which you can select and use
in weldassistant.
You will find a list of available plugins on the hsk-welding solutions homepage.

www.weldassistant.com

What is a plugin?
Software manufacturers define interfaces for their products with the help of which third parties can program
extensions (plugins) for these software products. So the plugin enhances the functionality of this software product.
Plugins as a rule are not capable of functioning without the application for which they were written.

A welding procedure specification is made up of header data e.g. (WPS no., WPQR (PQR) no., customer and order
details), the general welding parameters (parent materials, seam geometry, welding position,...), the weld seam
sketch, welding sequence as well as the various passes together with their welding parameters.
The conclusion generates a possible heat treatment for the weld seam. Many of these parameters appear only in
conjunction with the respective welding process or current type.
The WPS can be viewed in the print preview at any time.

WPS list - Overview

By pressing [WPS] you open the WPS list, in which you can organize your welding procedure specifications.
By double clicking with the left mouse button in the appropriate line or by pressing the button [OPEN], you can open
an existing WPS. Several WPS (EN & ASME) can be open simultaneously.

WPS functions - overview

Create a new WPS
Press the button [NEW WPS]. Enter the WPS number with the revision letters, select the
code ASME and press [OK] EN

Note: Select the code EN or ASME with the control box.

Open
By pressing the button [OPEN] or by double clicking in the list, the selected WPS is
opened.
Note: You can open more WPSs at any time.

Copy
Press the button [COPY]. Enter the WPS number with the revision letters and press [OK].
Note: by copying, revisions of welding procedure specifications can be carried out
rationally and customer order data easily adopted.

Create a welding procedure specification (WPS)

Pass specific welding parameters are processed in tables. The title of each pass is also the columns name. The first
tab, GENERAL, always contains process independent dates. The tab [SKETCH] contains weld seam geometry and the
weld seam build-up. Next register illustrates a respective weld pass. (e.g. root pass, filler pass, cap pass, 1
st
pass).

General
When creating a new welding procedure specification, a tab with the root pass is produced as standard. You may
change the name of the pass at any time. Enter the desired name in the box [PASS].

Pasting and copying of passes (column):
Pressing the button [NEW PASS] adds an empty pass into the WPS. To copy an existing pass, press [COPY] and the
complete contents will be adopted into a new pass.

Erasing passes (columns):
To erase a pass, select the key [ERASE].

The default specifications are in the nature of recommendations and do not release the user
from the responsibility to inform themselves of the correctness of the combination of parent and
welding filler materials, and of the application and processing of the selected welding filler.
Application of the data is entirely the responsibility of the end user. See also license conditions.

In order to simplify the search for the correct welding filler, this program contains a process dependant classification
of welding fillers according EN.

Example: if welding process 141 (TIG) is selected, only the TIG welding rods for the selected parent material will be
displayed to you if Parent materials 1 and 2 are identical.

After selecting a parent material, a table is displayed showing the possible welding fillers (WF) for this parent
material. Select the desired WF and expand this with additional necessary data.
If you have selected two different parent materials, all the WF in the data bank will be offered to you for selection.
You have the choice of entering the search criteria in the individual categories of the WF or, sorting the lists via the
column headings.

The filler materials are identified with the symbols ( ; ;.... etc.) to which one legend is allocated to each. Note
the information in these legends and check for suitability, application and restrictions.

Example: you are searching for a TIG welding rod
from the alloy group W 19 12. Enter the search term
w 19 12 in the box [Search...] and the list starts to
refine the selection with the first entry. This search
is made through all columns.
The marked WF appears automatically in the
selection window.
Select with [DISPLAY] how the WF is to be displayed
later in the WPS (printout).
Press [OK]. The filler material is accepted into the
welding procedure specification.

The welding fillers are identified with symbols to
which a legend is allocated. Enter further data for
the welding filler.

Note the information in these legends and check
for suitability, application and restrictions.

Welding filler material selection: SAW welding

Important note:
The suitability/approval of the wire/flux combination is to be verified in accordance with
appropriate authorities (e.g., TV, rail or ship classification bodies) or by means of process
certification.

In order to illustrate the combination of welding wire and flux, welding filler and flux for SAW welding are offered to
you in one view. Select the combination or expand it for further information.

Shielding gas / backing gas (EN ISO 14175 + AWS / SFA 5.32)

Depending on the selected welding process,
you will be requested to enter the shielding
gas. The standard gases available are process
dependant.

Select [Shield gas] or [Backing gas] as
appropriate from the respective register. The
gases are sectioned into the appropriate
groups in accordance with EN ISO 14175. The
designation can be selected acc. AWS / SFA

Should the gas to be used not appear in the
table, you can enter the designation and
percentages of the gases you wish to use in
the upper boxes for the corresponding
chemical elements.

The installed plugins can contain further
information (e.g. datasheet) on the
appropriate gases. The datasheet is opened by
selecting the symbol with the mouse

In order to calculate the heat input, the following
parameters must be laid down:
Current [A] / constant or pulse
Voltage [V]
Weld travel speed [cm/min]

Example
Using the CURRENT parameters, you can select between
pulse or constant current. When selecting pulse current,
you must select the pulse durations I1 and I2 or the pulse
frequency [Hz]. When pulse duration for I1 and I2 is
entered, these are used for calculation.
When entering the welding voltage as well as the weld
travel speed a range of values can be entered e.g. 10-12
Volt / 9-13 cm/min. The heat input will then be displayed
with min/max values (e.g. 8.5 - 9.6 kJ/cm).

5 Process certification (WPQR) administration

The process certifications administration serves as a quick overview of the applicable test data, ranges of approval,
validity and required extensions of welding process certifications.

The principal advantage of this administration is that it can define an unlimited number of ranges of approval.

Thus one can detail the complete range of approval to the extent that an applicable process certification for a
welding application can be found quickly.

Warning functions visualize the validity of the certifications.
