7.6 COMPARISON OF HARDWARE AND SIMULATION RESULTS In this section the hardware and simulation results with same electrical specification are compared with each other. The electrical specifications of high step up dc-dc converter are Vin = 7 V, Vo =105 V, Fs = 50 kHz, RL = 1000. C1 = C2 =4.7F, C3 =1F.N = 5, D = as 55%. Table 7.2 Comparison of hardware and simulation results RESULTS Voltage across diode D1 Voltage across diode D2 Voltage across diode D3 Output voltage Simulation results 90 23 23 103 Hardware results 90 20 20 105
The Comparison of hardware and simulation results with same electrical specification is shown in table 7.2. The table 7.2 is build using the values observed from simulation results shown in FIG 7.6, 7.7 and hardware results from FIG 7.16 .From table 7.2 it can be observed that voltage across diode D1 in both hardware and simulation are same i.e. 90V. Further voltage across diode D2, D3 differ by 3V from simulation to hardware i.e. 23V to 20V.the output voltage of the converter in simulation is 103V and 105V hardware i.e. there is difference of 2V between hardware output and simulation output. 7.7 COMPARISON WITH CONVENTIONAL METHODS The dcdc converter requires large step-up conversion from the panels low voltage to the voltage level of the application. Previous research on various converters for high step-up applications has included analyses of the switched-inductor and switched- capacitor types; transformerless switched-capacitor type [1], high-efficiency, high step-up dcdc converters [2]; and the boost type integrated with a coupled inductor [3]. these converters obtained high voltage gain than conventional boost converter and have efficiency 95% to 98 % .but these converter increase they turns ratio of coupled inductor to obtain higher output voltage. This leads to increase in size of the coupled inductors and increase in the weight of converter. But the proposed converter gives the high voltage gain without increase in the turns ratio of coupled inductor. HIGH VOLTAGE GAIN, HIGH STEP UP DC-DC CONVERTER MTECH, EPE, DSCE BANGALORE 60
Table 7.3 Voltage gain comparison
The voltage gain of the proposed converter and various other converters are shown in table 7.3 From the table 7.3 it can be observed that voltage gain of the proposed converter is 12 which is high value compared to the other converters. Hence the proposed converter gives the high voltage gain without increase in the turns ratio of coupled inductor.
Figure 7.17 Voltage gain as a function of the duty ratio of the proposed converter. Fig 7.17 shows the voltage gain of proposed converter for different duty cycle. x axes represents duty cycles and y axes represents voltage gain. that for duty cycle of 0.1 voltage gain is of 6.5 which is minimum and for duty cycle of 0.8 the voltage gain is 33 which is maximum. However when compared to conventional converters [1][2] the voltage gain proposed converter is high for less number of turns ratio and duty cycles. 7.8 SUMMARY In this chapter the simulation result of solar panel, simulation results of high step up dc-dc converter, simulation results of high step up dc-dc converter with PID controller ,simulation results of interleaved high step up dc-dc converter with PID controller, hardware results of proposed converter, comparison with conventional methods is discussed.

CHAPTER 8 CONCLUSION AND SCOPE FOR FUTURE WORK This thesis has introduced and developed a high step up DC-DC converter, high step up DC-DC converter with PID controller, interleaved high step up DC-DC converter with PID controller. The proposed high step up DC-DC converter is build using both hardware and simulation .From the simulation and hardware results it is observed that the reduction in the input ripple current is achieved and the energy of the coupled inductors leakage inductor has been recycled, the voltage stress selected across the active switch S1is constrained, which means low ON-state resistance RDS (ON) can be selected. Thus, improvements to the efficiency of the proposed converter have been achieved. From the converter, the turns ratio n=5 and the duty ratio D is 55%; thus, without extreme duty ratios and turns ratios, the proposed converter achieves high step-up voltage gain, and also reduction in the rise time and steady state error is achieved due use of PID controller in feedback. The experimental results show the efficiency of the converter is 98.5 %.
Future developments include the use of multilevel inverter so that the harmonics generated in the circuit can be reduced. Further by using maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique maximum power can be achieved and to reduce the ripple content on the output side the ripple cancellation network need to be developed.
