CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Interlocking block is an important element in any building construction. Sometimes, its also
including in construction of house. Interlocking bricks have important role, because its has a
function such as improve the strength and durability of a structure, to reduce heat in a building
and has a long lasting. So, the design of interlocking block must be suitable with their function.

In this our title of final project, we were thinking about interlocking block. We will re-design
the block existing nowadays to be a more strength than can reduce earthquake disaster. The
existing of block just can lock 2 ways only but our design can lock 4 ways. The materials are
same with existing block.

1.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT
The problem until the creation of this product is the original l product less locking block
bond and less environmentally.

1.2 OBJECTIVE
i. Produce better quality interlocking block in especially structural strength.
ii. Increase the durability of a structure design.
iii. Produce blocks more environmentally friendly (earthquake disaster).
1.3 SCOPE
In this project we have studied the importance of the strength of the interlocking blocks
to be used as homes and public buildings. The interlocking block has weakness in term of
material because of the use of 100% percent of clay or concrete. These cases causing some
blocks are not suitable for use constructs as bigger and taller building. Our scope of this project
is very suitable for construct a low cost of house.

The scope of our project as shown below:
i. To create a block that has a stronger bond than the existing block.
ii. To test the strength of the blocks are created with specific test.

CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW

2.0 INTRODUCTION

Interlocking bricks is the definition of beauty and class for driveways, patios, pool decks,
and paths. When properly installed, interlocking bricks will not crack, sag, shift or separate,
they will look rich for generations. If a bricks is damaged or stained with oil, it can easily and
inexpensively be replaced to look flawless. This type of repair is virtually impossible with
any other types of surface.
Interlocking bricks is earthquake resistant; this is a major benefit on the west coast.
There is a wide range of colour and patterns available which makes it possible for
interlocking bricks to tie in nicely with any design concept.

2.1 MATERIAL USED

i. Sand
ii. Water
iii. Cement

The manufacturing process is done carefully in order to maintain the strength of the
interlocking blocks through several manufacturing processes. The hill was destroyed first. Sand
filtered and mixed with cement and water. Mix ratio is 4 large buckets of sand, 5 buckets of the
hill, a bag of cement and three small bucket of water.
Then mixed with a machine mixer for 5-6 minutes. This mix will be weighed prior to
interlocking blocks made to the composition of the prescribed standard. Normally, this can result
in a mixture of 50 blocks. Blocks absorb water up to <9%.

2.1 ADVANTAGE INTERLOCKING BRICK

i. These products approve by BOMBA, SIRIM & CIDB.
ii. For finishing, not required for using plastering & painting.
iii. Good heat and sound insulation compare to conventional and other building material.
iv. Fast period construction and easy. (2-3 times faster compare to conventional)
v. Can saving at labor cost, building material, machinery, waste material, time, safety,
construction space and easy to hander.
vi. Clean construction site.
vii. Overall cost saving at 15%-25%
viii. Material in interlocking brick = clay 60%, sand 20%, cement 18% and water 2%

2.2 INTERLOCKING BRICK SELECTION FACTOR
i. Types of building (Limited 2 stores)
ii. Resistance to heat
iii. Beauty
iv. Economy
v. Insurers good load
2.3DIVIDED INTO 4 GROUP

i. Load bearing wall structure
ii. Non load bearing wall structure
iii. Partition wall
iv. Wall cladding

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
3.0 INTRODUCTION
In a project, the steps to complete tasks should be design to ensure that the project will
run smoothly as planned. Therefore, we must be known about all the information related to
the project based on the topic that we have chosen. Steps created to ease work and we know
what we will do next. Besides, it also seeks to ensure a quality product is produced.

Based on the title we have chosen the designing of the new interlocking blocks, we have
identified the information that we have available. Based study to test a transverse strength
test, movement test, and vibrating test (earthquake test). We also recognize that the source
for these materials. Clay is the main ingredient of our project. The design for this project we
can do it by using an AutoCAD application.
