PROJECT STATEMENT
The Pacifc Science Center inspires a lifelong interest in science, math
and technology by engaging diverse communities through interactive and
innovative exhibits and programs.
The Pacifc Science Center needs and identity and promotional pieces for an
upcoming exhibit The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fullers Ideas for Today. The
visual language of the event package needs to refect the nature of the exhibit.
Create a visual language across multiple media outlets to educate the
pubic about the event.
Use shape, color and repetition to create a look and feel that can be
used in multiple forms of print and web advertising. An interactive
insert was created for Seattle Met to bring the audience into the
experience before attending the event.
From June 13th through June 30th, 2013, the Pacifc Science
Center and Boeing IMAX Theater will presentThe Utopian Impulse:
Buckminster Fullers Ideas for Today, the frst exhibition to consider
Fullers design legacy. The presentation will feature some 65 works,
including prints, drawings, photographs, documentary video, books,
models, and ephemera representing some of Fullers most iconic
projects alongside those by designers inspired by his philosophy.

DEMOGRAPHIC
The main demographic this event trying to reach is: architects, designers and
other intellectuals who are design conscience. These people tend to be younger
working professionals who work at places such as Amazon, Microsoft and Adobe.
They live in neighborhoods like South Lake Union, Magnolia and Bellevue.
This demographic has young children and the exhibit is a good way for the
younger generation to be exposed to Modernism and architecture. Buckminster
Fullers ideas have infuenced modern technology as well as architectural design
and the interactive exhibits are a great way to engage the young family.
PERSONA
Keenen recently graduated from the
University of Washington with a degree in
Architecture. He lives in South Lake Union.
When he is not working at a small frm in
Pioneer Square, Keenen enjoys traveling
and sight-seeing. He loves learning and
frequents the local museums in Seattle and
Tacoma. Keenen is fuent in 3 languages.
Mike works for an educational tech company
in Puyallup and his wife, Vanessa works for an
aerospace company out of Renton. The couple lives
in Bellevue. They love the Seattle Mariners and taking
Vanessas little brother and sister to the city to see
plays at the Childrens Theater. They often visit the
Pacifc Science Center and attend frst Thursday events.
Rod is a web developer for a company
based out of Redmond. His daughter,
Audrey attends Tacoma School Districts
School of Math and Science. She is
really into art and design as well as the
sciences. Rod and Audrey are involved
in a range of activities. They enjoy flying
their small plane and rock climbing.
Seattle Science Center looks at Buckminster Fuller's legacy
Architecture and design exhibition links fuller's radical idealism to local innovators inspired by his visionary thinking
From June 13th through June 30th, 2013, the Pacifc Science Center and Boeing IMAX Theater will presentThe Utopian Impulse:
Buckminster Fuller's Ideas for Today, the frst exhibition to consider Fuller's design legacy. The presentation will feature some 65 works,
including prints, drawings, photographs, documentary video, books, models, and ephemera representing some of Fuller's most iconic
projects alongside those by designers inspired by his philosophy.
The Utopian Impulseopens by introducing Fuller, primarily with prints from theInventions: Twelve Around Oneportfolio (1981), as
well as several key works on loan from the R. Buckminster Fuller Archive at Stanford University. The gallery includes projects dating
from the late 1920s through the mid-1970s paired with his most well-known ideas from the portfolio, such as the4D House(1928),
a hexagonal autonomous dwelling meant to be optimally resource effcient and mass producible from factory-made kits that could
be easily shipped anywhere and quickly assembled on site. Extending this optimization to transportation, Fuller's ultra-light three-
wheeledDymaxion Car(1933) featured unprecedented fuel effciency and an aerodynamic, teardrop shape, which was determined in
collaboration with boat designer Sterling Burgess. While these projects held promise in effciency, fabrication techniques available at
the time could not produce a viable design for mass production.
The exhibition also presents several of Fuller's big-picture ideas, including hisWorld Gameproject, which he initiated in 1965.
Conceived as a data-visualization system meant to facilitate global approaches in solving the world's problems, Fuller intended the
piece to "make the world work, for 100 percent of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without
ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone."

This insert will be featured in Seattle Met.
It has an interactive element to bring
readers in. The design on the right can
be cut out and folded together to created
a Buckminster Fuller inspired form. It can
then be used as a reminder for the event.
