Two weeks before Don Baughman was shot and killed by armed robbers on August 31, 1989 in Nigeria, West Africa, we sent Lawrence Ebak, a Nigerian evangelist and teacher, to study at Lincoln Christian College. Lawrence was baptized in the Lagos lagoon in 1957 by Don Baughman. He graduated from the West Africa School of Evangelism in 1962. At that time he started congregations at Iwaya and Egan. He also helped to start the Bariga and Eguntedo churchesall in the Western Region. Don married Lawrence to Clara in 1964 at the Ebute Metta church in Lagos. Together they raised Ida (25), Dama (24), Monday (20), and Ekana (16). Clara died in 1982 giving birth to Susan. In 1985 Lawrence wed Eyengha, a lovely Christian lady, who joined him at Lincoln Christian College in late July. Lawrence.returned to his home in the Eastern Region in the late 60's during the Biafran civil war. He began churches at Okumuruktet, Mkpani, Itamtet, and established the thriving Apiapum congregation in his home town. A substantial church building was erected in 1970. The Apiapum church is the first Nigerian congregation to pay a full-^ time evangelist, Etaba Erim. They also supported Etaba in the Cross River Bible School where Lawrence taught from 1979-1983. Lawrence took an Introductory course in Translation Principles and Applied Linguistics when he helped Dr. Kate Barnwell, a Wyclif Bible Translator, in the translation of the Mbembe New Testament* BAUGHMAN MEMORIAL FUND Page 2 In a letter from Lawrence dated 15 November 1990 he relates some very sad news from his home in Nigeria. On Sunday morning October 21 Clara's sister was getting her children ready for church service when she cried out in pain, fell down and died. She was an active member in the Apiapum church. She left behind a Christian husband and four children. Please be in prayer for the Ebaks and their sorrowing family. My living-link .church in Tulsa, Oklahoma has helped me to establish the Don Baughman Memorial Fund for the education of Nigerians here in the States. Lawrence and Eyengha are the first recipients. Lawrence's credits from our School of Evangelism were accepted and he is presently working on a Master's degree. Eyengha is an under-graduate. The Fund pays tuition, housing, and a monthly allotment for the Ebaks. Would you please join us in prayer for the dedicated young men and women who carry on the Lord's work in Nigeria and with your offering to the Don Baughman Memorial Fund.
