Daet District Jail is one of the jail facilities within BJMPRO-5 which is
performing on its best. Thru sound jail management, active acquisition,
hiring, training and maintenance of resources, innovations and good
practices, logistics improvements, strong linkages and unending support
from the top, DDJ has established Primary and Secondary Gate, Kitchen,
Water Facility, Multi-Purpose Hall, Admin Building, CCTV and internet
connection.

DDJ continues to evolve in a more secured facility and IN in terms
of modern technology. Thru the leadership of a solar power enthusiast
Warden, J/SINSP GERARDO S BERDIN, DDJ now has an improvised SOLAR
POWERED EQUIPMENT (SPE).

What is Solar Power Equipment? How it works?

Solar Power Equipment is composed of solar
panels which has arrangement of PV or solar
cells that are exposed to sunlight and convert it
to electricity in the form of direct current (DC).
The DC Power is stored into Batteries through a
Charge Controller. The DC Power is passed
through an Inverter that converts the DC power
into alternating current (AC) which can be used
for household lighting and run appliances.
Bigger systems can be used to supply power for
industrial and commercial use.

Typically, the batteries will be charged during daytime and the stored power will be consumed at
night time. The PV systems components specifications and sizes will depend on the size of the
load.

Solar Power Equipment in Daet District Jail is a standalone system
where the power supply is generated from the Solar PV Panels and stored
in the Battery to supplement the AC or DC load. SPE served as power bank
of emergency light and charger of cell phones, laptops, tablets and other
similar gadgets during power interruption.

Installation of Solar Power Equipment at Daet District Jail was
materialized thru concerted initiatives of J/SINSP GERARDO S BERDIN,
District Jail Warden (DJW) and DDJ personnel. Inverter with solar charge
controller was courtesy of DJW, provision of solar panel was thru
monetary contribution of DJW and DDJ personnel and using of supposed
junked battery from DDJ Foton Van.

charge battery 12 volts within seven
to eight hours.
o The more panel, the
faster and powerful solar charge.
Inverter 300 wattage
maximum capacity (150 watts
advisable load with 150 watts
protection factor to avoid overload.)
Battery 12Volts 70Amperes
o The more battery the
better as it would multiply the
storage power capacity.
o The standard battery for
solar power system is called DEEP
CYCLED BATTERY, but to maximize
the resources, we make use of the
supposed junk and old battery from
DDJ Foton Van.
Solar controller 10 amperes
o This is used to avoid
overcharging of solar power to the
battery and prolong battery life.

This SPE lighted the admin building and front of penology building
during power interruption at night. We wish for this initiative to gain
support from the top and DDJ to be a model solar powered facility.

This newly constructed grotto at DDJ compound is lighted by a rechargeable
solar lamp at night and is recharged by sunlight during daytime.

RECHARGEABLE SOLAR LAMP is another solar product introduced by DJW.
DDJ personnel now also have rechargeable solar lamps to serve as
emergency lights in their homes. They found it useful, safe and impressive.

This is only at Daet District Jail.!
The first jail in the Philippines to promote solar energy as source of power.
DDJ envisioned itself as a fully solar powered facility and be known as the
pioneer to promote solar energy as source of power.
