Syrah, Mourvdre, Grenache, and Petite Sirah. The wine exhibits complexity and depth while still emphasizing its lush and rich body. By utilizing excellent fruit, a veteran winemaker and careful blending, Troublemaker sets the bar for quality and value in Paso Robles. MULTI-VINTAGE Wine is best made when a winemaker has choices. This philosophy is evident in the Troublemaker, a blend crafted from multiple varietals and vintages. The selected lots of wine come from 2010 and 2011 vintages. Aged wine from 2010 (80%) adds complexity and structure; while the bright, young wine from 2011 (20%) brings forth a freshness that helps complete the finished wine. BLEND Inspired by the blends of the southern Rhne, Troublemaker consists of 67% Syrah, 22% Mourvdre, 8% Grenache and 3% Petite Sirah. Syrah is the backbone of the wine, setting the stage with a fruit-forward style and full body. Rustic and lively flavors from Mourvdre blended with bright and sweet cherry flavors from the Grenache help round the wine. A dash of Petite Sirah adds color and tannin. VINEYARDS 100 percent of the grapes for this proprietary blend are grown in Paso Robles. We source grapes from a number of vineyards throughout the diverse appellation - seeking a variety of flavors to make this unique blend. Rhne varietals are becoming increasingly popular in the heart of the Central Coast with the limestone and chalky soils and unique microclimates that greatly influence the flavor profiles of these varietals. PRODUCTION Upon harvest, grapes are crushed and fermented in five and ten ton capacity, open-top tanks. The 2010 wine was aged in French oak barrels (15% new) for 16 months. The final blend was crafted in the summer of 2012 by adding the aged wine (2010) to the new vintage (2011), which had seen about 8 months of oak barrel aging. It was filtered once, just prior to bottling in August 2012. TASTING NOTES Troublemaker combines elegance and power. Bright aromas of black cherry and licorice evolve into a stronger bouquet reminiscent of smoked meats. The wine shows intensity and depth with a rich and textural mouthfeel. Complete with dark berry and strawberry fruit flavors along with earthy hints of leather and cocoa, it is a balanced wine that culminates with a long finish.
