Who we are
Mr Sridhar Rao sat on his old rustic chair in the
garden and plugged in his ancient, extremely
exquisite, vinyl player and put on his favorite record,
Louis Armstrongs What a Wonderful World. He
leaned into his chair and watched the dusk roll by.
His favorite grandson, although he claimed he didnt
have any favorites, Karan, came in to tell him about
his new job.
Mr Rao asked him to take a seat next to him and
asked for some refreshments from the help. As they
both relaxed, Armstrongs strong raspy vocals put
a huge smile on Mr Raos face. Analog is best. All
you kids and your new fangled gizmos and your
MP3 dikchak songs with the same beats paired with
fve guys simply saying YO to everything for no
reason. You dont know how to listen to music I say.
He grinned as the beautiful song carried the day
towards darkness. What is this new job you got? Tell
me more.
Karan's story
Well grandpa, Ive been hired by this company called
Flipkart as a part of their marketing team. They
basically deal with... before Karan could fnish his
sentence, the kids playing cricket across the street
managed to whack the ball straight into the house.
As they cheered, yelling,Six! the ball few at a
tremendous speed and knocked the vinyl right out of
the player. The kids scatered knowing its not worth
facing Mr Raos wrath for ten balls, let alone one.
Mr Rao, teary eyed, leaned forward and picked up
the pieces of his favorite record. He walked into the
house without saying a word. Karan understood the
pain his grandad might be going through. With a sly
grin on his face, he quickly gobbles the snacks and
runs home.
Two days later Mr Rao was awakened from his nap
by someone at the door. As he opened it, dazed and
cranky, he saw a young man about the same age as
Karan with a huge bag and an even bigger smile on
his face. He handed Mr Rao a package and then lef
afer taking a quick signature. What a nice boy, Mr
Rao thought.
As he opened the package Mr Rao could not believe
his eyes. It was a brand new, gold edition of the
Louis Armstrong record. Tears swelled in his eyes as
Karan made a timely entrance. You did this? How
did you even get this? So quick? How is it possible?
Mr Rao asked with a shaky voice. I did grandpa, this
is what I do. This is my new job. Karan said. Please
elaborate said Mr Rao looking puzzled. I work for
Flipkart. They are the biggest e-commerce portal in
the country. We have a variety of goods on our site
that are delivered right to peoples doorstep hassle-
free. They can even pay the money on delivery. We
have a huge range of things we deal with, including
vinyls and other things that not so easily available.
Our drive and pursuit of excellence is what made you
get your record in time. Customers always come frst
Is this place the reason you look so happy these
days? Mr Rao inquired. You bet, they hired me
not just because I had inherited a piece of paper.
