TECHNOLOGY AND INVENTION:

ARCHITECTURE:
Bricks and stone are introduced to the natives which later used in different structures like
Bahay na Bato
They built museums and libraries. The oldest museum was found in the University of
Santo Thomas.
They also built hospitals, asylums and orphanages in order to take care of the sick and
needy.
Volada, a part of bahay na bato which is the outward projection of the second floor
Calado, a decorative cutwork
Tabla, a wide floorboard
Ventanilla, sliding panels between the door and windows
Spaniards built government offices and served as the meeting place of higher officials
They built printing press which was introduced by the Dominicans. The first tagalog
book was Doctrina Christiana En lengua Espanol y Tagala.
LANGUAGE:





Spanish language became as one of the official language in the Philippines.
RELIGION:
In terms of religion, they introduced the Roman Catholicism to the natives which later
became as one of the most known religion in the Philippines.
They introduced the church for the house of God and a place to worship. These churches
still exist like Barasoain Church.
CULTURE:
They introduced to us the fiesta or religious festival which became the special social
gathering occasion of the folk where they get to perform and dance
They introduced to us the artistry in terms of stage play. The most common plays are
moro, zarzuela and cenaculo
In terms of dances, they introduced pandanggo, jota, and cari
POLITICS:
They contributed the Obras Pias. It was like a bank where elite people save their money
for them to loan while the interest will be given to charities.

They formed the Encomienda System, a law where the Spaniards has given the right to
collect taxes or tributes from the inhabitants of the area assigned to him

Galleon trade known as Manila-Acapulco Trade, this is the longest shipping line during
Spaniards Era. Spaniards closed all the ports of Manila to all countries except Mexico
(Acapulco)
AGRICULTURE:
They contribute different agriculture foods like achuette, cincamas, squash, peanuts,
tomatoes and lima beans.
They contribute also beef sausage ham and olive oil
EDUCATION:
They introduced and taught the natives to write, languages, read, history, and how to
solve.
They introduced schools and college like Ateneo Municipal de Manila which was known
for Ateneo de Manila now.
TECHNOLOGY:
Using dynamites to obtain masonry than cutting of bamboo was introduced to the natives
Spanish created road network system with cobblestone floor tile patterns that gave easier
transportation and trading of products. An link both rural and urban areas.
