Koh Samui Going Green with THA

Its been over one year now, since THA, Thai THA have more objectives in the months

staff to take care of their hotels first and
their own homes, from here we are able to
create a larger awareness program to koh
Samui and Thailand by leading by example.
Most THA hotels have seen the benefit from
this worth while endeavor, to use the R,s
Reduce, Recycle and Reuse.
Most establishments now can use the money
from recycling to give back to the staff, in
terms of parties, shirts or items for their staff

glory, if we abuse her more than we have
now, we wont have an Island or planet to
live on.

Adopting schools
Why adopt a school, you
may say? its simple, in com-
bining forces of THA hotels
and resorts with local schools,
the Tessban have chosen 10
schools for the initial 2009
project with 15 more to be
looked at for the 2010 cal-
endar year.
Combining our efforts to edu-
cate the children of koh samui
in the three R,s as well as
educating their parents on
the importance of not throw-
ing garbage away, but recy-
cling what can be used.
Two hotels will work on one
school, for this project,
brother one and brother 2,
brother two will take a new
school next year, and brother
one will help them along.
Certain areas of the schools
would be handed over to
garbage separation areas,

Helping the schools to be self
sufficient and educating the
children to take care of their

Once these projects are set
up in the next few months, a
continuation would then hap-
pen and the children will
reap the benefits by the
three R,s and assistance from
the Tessaban to help them
sell their garbage.

Grand opening of the Low Carbon school projects

A historic day for the Tessban
and THA on Koh Samui, the
grandest day yet will arrive
on the 15th June at the Koh
Samui school in Nathorn.
This school has been be-
friended by Six senses resort
and spa as its “pi Liang”
school, along with Regent
Chaweng and Melati.
A lot of work to be done to
set up this project, due to
having 10 schools under one
banner it was decided to
show all ten schools under
one roof, a grand opening
from 8:00am until 12 noon.
All schools will be there to
show what they are doing,
we expect GIDOA, samui
rescue, Samui dogs home,
local dignitaries along with
the police, locals and tourist,
fire brigade, various hospi-
tals on the Islands.

John Ens and the Dutch University
On Marc h 25th and April1st
2009, Vice chairman of the
THA Green Committee and
GM of Rocky’s, Khun John Ens,
Khun Jack, Chief Gardener of
Rocky’s and khun Tiew, com-
mittee members of Rocky’s
Green Team talked to a total
of 120 students of the Dutch
University of Breda, Holland.
Following a week in Cambo-
dia and Bali, the students, of
over 15 different nationalities,
stayed a week on Samui and
Phangan to study the effect of
international tourism on local

re usable wood for the school
projects.

Observations on the Island—clean ups
I am not sure how many of
you have seen, more local
road cleaners in all districts
of koh Samui.
Well some of us have and
much appreciated it is that
the local Tessban is sending
people out.
We are not sure if they are
employed by the Tessban or
development as well as to
interview restaurant and bar
owners, shop keepers and
different GMs.
Khun John explained the co-
operation between the THA
Green Committee with the
Tessaban as well as the coop-
eration with the schools, the
diving association of Samui
(Green Fins) and the partici-
pation of THA resorts in other
local activities such as beach
cleaning and the Samui Green
Island campaign.

The Green Committee has been very active and successful in their projects for their green Calendar.
The Biggest success so far is the Carbon school Project, which sees support from the Tessban with a
budget of 50,000 baht per school, this money is used only for the recycling and nothing else.
The first 10 schools will be in motion, or some are on the go as we write this article getting ready
for the schools to open.
Its all about education, teaching our children the values of our world and the future of our planet,
saving energy, reducing, re using and reducing unwanted materials can create a huge difference in
the climate world wide, what we do today on samui will help them all over the world.
