CHAPTER 13 REFLECTION

I liked this chapter a lot since I could learn many new techniques about
phonetics. There were many things that caught my attention but mainly three.
First of all, the words stress. I like it because I really learned many new
things I didnt know before. For example, when you change the stress of a
word, it can have other meaning. Thats why when learning English, students
have to be careful about that.
Second of all, the connected speech. I also like this since I could notice how
fluent I can speak if I pay attention to the phonetic symbols. It really sounds
naturally and fluently and I can communicate better using connected speech.
Third of all, the schwa sound. I like to study this since I could notice that the
schwa sound is an unstressed syllable that when we talk, its almost omitted. I
liked this because when I studied it I noticed I improved my pronunciation
skills.
To sum up, studying phonology in this chapter was very useful for me and for
my classmates since we were able to improve our pronunciation skills and we
could develop some more.

CHAPTER 14 REFLECTION
I liked this chapter since I learned many things about how to correct
students mistakes and also I learned many new activities I can practice in my
class. Mainly, there were three activities that I liked the most.
In the first place, errors and corrections. I especially like this topic because
in the past I didnt know how to correct a student without making him or her
feel bad. But now, I know how to do it since the chapter has a lot of
interesting articles that I read and I hope to put it in practice in the future.
In the second place, testing. I also liked this topic since I could notice the
difference between a proficiency test and a progress test. They are different
kinds of exams which are designated for different purposes. The proficiency
tests are International Exams and a progress test is just taken to see how
students are going in the course up to the present. Its a really interesting
topic since I also could learn how to make a good assessment. I hope I can do
it better in the future.
In the third place, the Cuisenaire Rods. I liked this part of the chapter due to
the fact that there are many dynamic activities a teacher can make with them.
You can teach lexis or even grammar with them. When I used it in my oral
exam it was very enjoyable to work with them. I hope I can use them from a
different way in the future.
In conclusion, in this chapter I learned how to correct students error from a
very easy way. Moreover, I learned how to prepare dynamic activities for my
students that I hope to use in the future.
