it is a new approach. It also lists 9 assessment benefits to online learning on the second
and third page of the journal.

historical themes in this article. The authors talk about the advantages in scholarships

Part 4:

Information literacy goes hand in hand with digital literacy except one would need to
thoroughly research the information before presenting it in front of the audience on a digital
device. There are several benefits in being informational literate but the overall value is being
able to locate, research information, and use it to ones advantage. Technology is becoming a
vast part of todays society with numerous information that are both valid and invalid. It is not
only important to teachers but also students in countless of ways.
Being able to research on data bases, evaluate the information, and use the information
appropriately are some key values to information literacy. However, the overall value of being
information literate being able to include all these things and more. It is being able to use it to
ones advantage and present the given information to the audience for them to grasp and
critically analyze. It is able to use scholarly sources and being able to differentiate between what
is reliable and what isnt. Being informational literate will benefit one for a life time because
they are able to access resources and obtaining new materials and knowledge every day.
Information literacy is an on-going learning process that never stops whether one is a
student or teacher. As a student, one needs to know how to access, evaluate, and use information
in the 21st century. For example, if one were to present a project to the classroom they would
want their information to be accurate. They need to recognize what information is consistent by
researching on multiple scholarly websites and not websites that can be changed by anyone
anonymously such as Wikipedia. Even something simple as getting a passing grade also requires
a student to be information literate and thoroughly research the information to see if they can be
supported by statistics or other factual evidence. Educational institutions are also introducing
students to become lifelong learners by teaching them how to learn and critically think on their
own. A teacher is also required to be informational literate so they are able to present accurate
information to the younger generations. It is important that a teacher is giving accurate
information and contributing it to learners. Because teachers have a degree in education does not
mean they are done learning. Learning never truly ends and gaining the skill to be informational
literate is also important for teachers to expand on the topic and state standards.
The ISTE standard for teachers in the 21
st
century is for them to be able to teach students
the skill of critical analysis, new knowledge, and learn by applying digital literacy into their
work. To be able to apply digital technology to present to the classroom, the teacher must be able
to present accurate information on websites themselves before being able to teach students how
to find reliable sources.
Plagiarism is a concerning factor when it comes to looking up information online and
using other peoples information in ones own paper or projects. Access information online is
quick and convenient but an individual must be aware to cite his or her sources when they use
another persons information. Plagiarism, copyright, and fair use are relevant to information
literacy. Plagiarism is a dishonest act and can one can be charged depending on the severity. This
is related to information literacy because information is quick to gain nowadays and stealing
someone elses credit or work and use it as their own defeats the purpose of originality and
thinking critically.
Technology has impacted the need for information literacy because information
nowadays are not only available in libraries but they are also publically posted online for easier
access to everyone. Information literacy and digital literacy are two factors that contribute to
better engagement in the classroom and creates a more effective learning environment for
everyone. The 21
st
century is a century where technology is universal because of how quick and
easy it is to gain information. One must not forget to never plagiarize and take another persons
work without the proper use of citing references.
