Building Energy Software Tools Directory. Lighting Systems
This Department of Energy software directory describes over 30 software tools that are useful for lighting design.

The official SPOT site provides an overview of this lighting software tool, a tutorial, a case study, technical

Tool Lending Library at the Pacific Energy Center
The Tool Lending Library (TLL) site contains images and descriptions for its data collecting and measuring
devices from over 100 vendors. Application Notes describe measurement techniques and provide step-by-step
instructions for using specific tools. The TLL has a search feature to help you select the right tools for your
project. A tool request form and contact information is also provided.

Visual Lighting Design Software
The Visual Basic Edition lighting design software can be downloaded free from this site. The Visual Professional
Edition is available for a free 30 day trial period. Descriptions of the software products, downloading instructions,

Advanced Lighting Guidelines
The updated version of the Advanced Lighting Guidelines is currently only available as a Web-based publication,
by subscription. The Guidelines are a comprehensive guide to energy-efficient lighting technologies, products,
and best practices. Topics include a Luminaire Directory, Light & Vision, Health & Performance, Lighting Controls,
Daylighting, and Design Considerations.

California Energy Commi ssion. Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards
The CECs web site provides access to the Title 24 Standards, the Residential and Nonresidential Compliance
Manuals, compliance forms, new outdoor lighting zones, other related documents, and information about energy

California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC)
The CLTC is a collaboration between the University of California, Davis and the California Energy Commission.
This center focuses on emerging energy efficient lighting technologies and systems. Resources include
descriptions of CLTC projects, profiles of lighting demonstrations, reports and presentations on current lighting
topics, case studies, and information about educational opportunities.

DOE Sol id-State Lighting (SSL)
The Department of Energys SSL program provides research and development of SSL technologies, and works to
advance the introduction of these technologies to the marketplace. Detailed Test and Summary Reports from the
DOE CALiPER (Commercially Available LED Product Evaluation Program) are provided. SSL portfolio details,
overviews of LED basics, features, and applications; fact sheets; technical papers; presentations; and articles on

Energy Design Resources. Lighting Design
EDRs Lighting Design category contains design briefs and articles on efficient lighting technologies and
practices. The briefs include descriptions of lighting technologies, cover the design of efficient lighting systems,

Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)
The IES develops and promotes standards and guidelines for good lighting design and practice. This Web site

Lighting Controls Associ ation (LCA)
LCA is an association of manufacturers of advanced lighting controls. The site contains white papers and articles
on a variety of lighting controls topics, including design, codes, sustainability, and daylighting. Updates on new

Lighting Research Center
The Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institutes School of Architecture provides technical and
design information about lighting, lighting products, and lighting applications. Some of the topics covered include
outdoor lighting, controls, daylighting, environmental issues, street lighting, light and health, solid-state lighting,
and lighting efficiency. Many of the LRCs research program reports and articles are available for download.

National Lighting Product Information Program
NLPIP researches and tests new lighting products. It provides unbiased information about energy-efficient
lighting products and technologies. A glossary, NLPIP product reports, application guides, and searchable

This International Energy Agency source book presents information about the application and evaluation of

The Energy Center of Wisconsins Daylighting Collaborative promotes the incorporation of daylighting into

Heschong Mahone Group, Inc. and Californi a Dayli ghting Plus Program
The goal of the PIER Daylighting Plus Program is to increase energy savings achieved from daylighting combined
with electric lighting in commercial buildings in California. The program includes several research projects, Retail
Revisioning, Office Daylighting, and Daylight Metrics. In addition to the Daylighting Plus publications the HMG
site includes papers on Sidelighting Photocontrols Field Study and Daylighting and Productivity studies.

Lighting Research Center. Daylight Dividends
Daylight Dividends is a research program that is being implemented by the Lighting Research Center at
