8.3 Basic test process

Below please find the principle execution of an oil test:

1. start test
2. select testing standards / select or define user-standards
3. measure and enter ambient temperature ( not with ExpertMode on )
4. select test vessel with the respective electrodes ( not with ExpertMode on )
5. adjust the distance of the electrodes ( not with ExpertMode on )
6. fill oil into the clean test vessel
7. insert test vessel into the oil tester
8. close test cover
9. enter number of the test ( not with ExpertMode on )
10. start test
11. if necessary, print out or store the test results after the test

The test sequence usually consists of individual disruptive breakdown test steps that are performed one
after the other. The connection of the high voltage is preceded by a settling time. Now, the voltage is
continuously increased until a disruptive breakdown occurs.
As soon as a disruptive breakdown occurs, the voltage is switched off very fast.
For stirring the oil, the agitator can still be on.

The complete process is defined in the standards. Test times, agitator activity, etc. are automatic as defined
in the standards. The process can not be influenced. If different processes are required, it will be necessary
to generate user-specific programs.

8.4 Input of user programs

As a basic principle, a test process consists of various test sequences that are performed one after the
other.

test process

agitator

The picture below shows the most basic form of a test sequence:

This test sequence consists of a delay time and an increase of the test voltage in the
form of a ramp.

If there is a disruptive breakdown during the voltage increase, this test sequence will be
interrupted and the voltage value at the time of the disruptive breakdown is stored.

Depending on the programming of the test sequence, a test process can consist of individual test
sequences.

The individual breakdown tests are performed with a voltage increase ramp of 2.5KV/s each.
The delay time before the first test (Time1) is 10 minutes.
The time between the individual breakdown tests is 2 minutes each.

This is, of course, only an example. You can enter different values for the parameters.

11 Bootloader / updating the tester with a new program

11.1 General information on the Bootloader

The Bootloader serves for updating the testers without c hanging the EPROM.

The program for this tester is stored in a special programmable storage. Via a special function, the user can
reprogram this storage.
This outstanding feature of the tester enables to optimize the program without having to open the tester
and exchanging components.

The Bootloader is on the CD that is part of the delivery extent. The Bootloader is a program that needs to
be installed on the PC first. For this purpose, the command Setup.exe in the sub-directory Bootloader on the
CD must be started.
After installing the Bootloader and starting the Bootloader, the monitor of the PC shows the following:

For transmitting a new program to the tester, first the file that is to be transmitted must be selected.

If necessary, we will send you the file that is to be transmitted via e-mail.

Attention: When programming the tester no other program must be active on the PC. Please leave all
other programs, because interrupting the programming can lead to incorrect programming. During the
programming time (max. 10 minutes), the screen saver must not start, either.

Basic description.
Please follow the instructoins of the PC program Bootloader carefully!!

For starting the Bootloader, please activate the button Bootloader with the mouse. Now the software
checks whether it is possible to build up a connection to the tester. This action will take a few seconds. If a
firm connection can be established, the programming can be started. Please follow the instructions of the
program carefully. First, the tester needs to be switched off. Now, while the tester is switched off, two
buttons on the front panel of the tester need to be pressed simultaneously with two fingers: F2 and F3.

While holding the two buttons, the tester is to be switched on again. The tester is know in reading-in
condition and can receive a new program from the PC. After approximately 2 seconds, the 2 buttons can be
released. The display will show either nothing or something that doesnt make sense. That is normal and no
reason to worry. Now, please start booting. If you follow the commands of the program strictly, there
should be no problems.

During the programming, a blue bar on the PC indicates when the programming will be completed.

After the programming has been completed, the tester automatically restarts the program. Please
check now, whether the correct version of the program has been installed. The new version number of the
program should be higher than the preceding version number of the program. If the tester doesnt restart,
please switch off and on after programming.

Attention: After the transmittance, there could be a message in the display of the tester as follows:

Together with the display, there will be a continuous beep.

That is normal. The tester only gives you the information that after updating the program, now also
variables used in the program are preset with the respective standard values.

After the following switching-on, this message must appear no longer.
