Chapter 6: Making Songs in Band-in-a-Box 90

Check the 'Play When Chosen checkbox to have Band-in-a-Box play your song
immediately upon selecting a style.
When 'OK to add recent Iiles is checked, Band-in-a-Box automatically
adds styles to the list.
Use the !"#$%&'( button to save time scrolling up and down the list.

When you have made your selection, press !)*( to load the chosen style.
Click on !+$,&#-( to return to the main screen without changing the style.

Band-in-a-Box originally used MIDI styles, with well over one thousand available in a wide variety oI musical
genres. This version also includes RealStyles with audio tracks generated Irom live recordings oI top studio
musicians.

For a quick generic choice that will give you a good general idea oI how your arrangement sounds, you can use the
original Styles menu to pick a 'built-in style.
The Iirst 24 styles that we made were built into the program, and are still reIerred to as 'Built-in Styles. These
styles are no longer built into the program, making them editable like all other Band-in-a-Box styles.
The built-in styles may be selected Irom the Styles pull down menu. They are a convenient way to quickly apply a
basic style to a song.

The other styles that we make are called user styles because they are editable.
The user styles may be selected,
- by clicking on the |Style| button, or
- Irom the Sty pull down menu, or
- by selecting Load Style from Disk Irom the User menu, or
- by pressing >7.
Holding down &3,5%3- or 30583, while clicking on the style load button will restrict the Iiles to (?9*) or (@9A).
These instructions are given in a message iI an overIlow oI too many Iiles has occurred. This works wherever you
load in styles with a File | Open type oI dialog.

RealTracks, live audio recordings by top studio players and recording artists, replace MIDI tracks and can be
controlled just like MIDI instruments (volume changes, muting, etc.). Best oI all, they Iollow the chord progression
that you have entered, generating an authentic audio accompaniment to your song. They are not 'samples, but are
Iull recordings, lasting Irom 1 to 8 bars at a time, playing along in perIect sync with the other Band-in-a-Box tracks.
RealTracks can be built in to styles to replace some or all oI the MIDI parts.
