Faculty

Michael Gillette, Ph.D: Dr. Gillette is a dynamic speaker


in the field of Bioethics. Dr. Gillette has received a
number of teaching awards including the Medical
College of Virginia Outstanding Teacher Award in both
1999 and 2000 and the Excellence in Teaching Award
from the MCV Medical Class of 2002.

Charles R. Mulligan, MD: Dr. Mulligan is board-
certified in general and thoracic surgery. He has special
interest in lung cancer, esophageal cancer,
mesothelioma, and mediastinal tumors. His office is
located at Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer
Center. Throughout his career, he has held the position
of staff general surgeon at McDonald Army Hospital and
has been chief of the General Thoracic Surgery Section,
Division Cardiothoracic Surgery at Walter Reed Army
Medical Center.

Elizabeth Guilbert Perrow, Attorney: Elizabeth Guilbert
Perrow is a trial lawyer who practices primarily in the
area of medical malpractice defense. She has lectured
extensively on risk management issues to various
professional groups in Virginia and has authored a
chapter of Virginia CLE Medical Malpractice Law in
Virginia.

Mark Salvaggio, MD: Dr. Salvaggio relocated to
Lynchburg in 2005 after 20 years of practice in North
Carolina. He is board certified in general surgery and is
part of Seven Hills Surgical group. Dr.Salvaggio performs
a wide range of general surgery procedures,
endoscopies, open peripheral vascular surgery including
aneurysms and carotid artery disease.

Clareen Wiencek, RN, PhD., ACNP, ACHPN: Clareen is
a nurse manager/clinician in the Thomas Palliative Care
Unit at Massey Cancer Center, Virginia Commonwealth
University Health System, Richmond. She currently is a
member of AACNs Greater Richmond Chapter and an
AACN ambassador. Clareen has been a frequent
contributor to AACNs peer-reviewed journals and a
presenter at AACNs National Teaching Institute and
Critical Care Exposition.

Objectives
This seminar will provide an opportunity for
nurses and other health care professionals to:
1. Expand their knowledge of current
practice standards.
a. Dr Charles Mulligan: The attendee will
articulate the management of lung cancer
patients.
b. Dr. Mark Salvaggio: The attendee will
recognize the development and treatment
options for the patient at risk for venous
stasis ulcers.
2. Examine issues and trends that influence
care delivery and practice.
a. Michael Gillette, Ph.D.: The professional
will establish a standard to assess
complex ethical issues.
b. Elizabeth Guilbert Perrow, Attorney at
Law: The attendee will obtain knowledge
of documentation to reflect care.
3. Explore strategies to survive the current
changes in nursing practice and health
care management.
a. Clareen Wiencek, PhD, RN, ACNP,
ACHPN: The attendee will connect with
the national organizations direction for
nursing professionals.

Nursing Contact Hours
Centras Professional Nursing Development is an
approved provider of continuing nursing education
by the Virginia Nurses Association Continuing
Education Approval Committee, an accredited
approver by the American Nurses Credentialing
Centers Commission on Accreditation.
5.75 nursing contact hours will be available
upon completion of the seminar (60 minutes =
1 contact hour).
