Material Process: concrete/physical actions such as running, hitting

o Actor- the one doing the action

o Goal- is the participant at whom the process is directed (direct object)

o Range- at whom the process is directed but less independent, continuation of the process

o Beneficiary- the participant that benefits from the process (indirect object)

Mental Process: process in the mind to do with thinking, feeling

o Senser- the participant doing the mental process

o Phenomenon- what is being mentally processed

Verbal Process: having to do with speech, utterances

o Sayer- the participant doing the verbal process

o Receiver- the participant at whom verbal process is directed

o Verbiage- what is being said

Behavioural Process: “halfway-house” between mental and material

o Behaver- the participant doing the behavioural process

o Behaviour- a participant that is like a Range, a restatement of the process

o Phenomenon- a participant which is not a restatement of the process

Existential Process: things are simply stated to exist

o Existent- the participant which exists

Relational Process: things are stated to exist in relation to other

o Identifying: serves the purpose of defining

 Token- that which is defined

 Value- serves to define the identity of the Token

o Attributive: serves the purpose of describing


 Carrier- that which is being described

 Attribute- serves to describe the Carrier
