Dear Sir/Madam,
I came from Indonesia, a developing country in Southeast Asia where its total population reach over 235 million by
2010. Indonesia, however still stumble in the >100th rank in terms of GDP, despite its richness in natural resources.
Realizing this, Indonesian government and civilians start to built their beloved country. One of our endeavour is to
modernize our way to retreive and access informations (digitalization), and the usage of internet technologies.
Sadly, along with the development of internet in Indonesia, digital crimes in Indonesia is also increasing. Knowing
this fact, I have decided to study and master the computer security eld of study. Because, if I can master the
knowledge of computer security, I will be able to assist my country maintaining its digital environment, and in the
end, it will help my country breaking the "third world country" title, and become one of the prosperous countries
in the world.
In order to do that, I have decided to take my bachelor degree into the next level, and set Master degree in the eld
of computer security as my next target. Because obtaining master degree in computer security will give me solid
skills in this eld (computer security). And afterward, when it is still possible, I also planned to continue my study
in the doctoral degree of the same eld of study.
It is unarguably true that as long as we have the integrity to do something, we will always produce a good result in
the end. But we can't neglect the fact, that the better the environment, the better result we can get. In relevance
with that, I have decided to undertake my graduate studies in a place that not only have solid curriculum to full
my academic needs, but also have a great environment and reputation in the eld of engineering.
TU Darmstadt is located in Darmstadt, a city that has promoting itself as a "city of science" since 1997, and
become one of the high-tech center in Germany. We all know that TU Darmstadt is one of the most reputable
Technical University in the world. It is a member of the TU-9 Universities and it is also listed as one of the best
university in engineering (QS World Rankings 2011/2012). Furthermore, unlike another TU-9 Universities (KIT,
TU Mnchen, etc), TU Darmstadt oer a specialized Master Program in IT Security eld of study. That is why I
believe that doing my graduate studies in TU Darmstadt will be a huge benet for me, because it has solid tradition
in engineering, and great environment to do my master and doctorate studies.
I am interested with the course that being oered by TU Darmstadt's Master Program of IT Security. Because
it is not only oer me the important courses in the eld of computer security (Netzwerksicherheit, IT Sicherheit,
Applied Cryptography and Network Security, etc), but also oer me the courses that will answer my additional
questions. For example, there is a course titled "IT-Sicherheit-Management". This course will provides me with
the knowledge to manage the security of IT system. So that, I can manage the security of IT system better.
Besides of the reasons above, I have another reason why I want to do my graduate studies in TU Darmstadt. It
is because one of my role models (Prof. Dr. Ing. Iskandar Alisjahbana) is an alumni from TU Darmstadt. That
is why I think that TU Darmstadt will be the best choice for me to conduct my graduate studies. Because I can
undergone the very path that Prof. Dr. Ing. Iskandar Alisjahbana went.
I personally think that I will be a suitable candidate for TU Darmstadt's Master Program of IT Security, because I
have a solid knowledge in engineering. I graduated from the best Technological Institute in my homeland (Institut
Teknologi Bandung), and have demonstrated my solid skills and capabilities in Computer and Electrical Engineering
during my bachelor's study with GPA of X.Y (scale of 0-4, with 4 as the highest). I also get an X for my

undergraduate's nal project (Design and Implementation of 'SMS One Time Password'-Based Web Authentication
System).
During my bachelor studies, I was involved in many student organizations activities. I have lead the divisions of
national-scales student activities for several times. One of them was became the leader of Innovative Entrepreneurship Challenge 3's Logistic Division, a national scale bachelor level entrepreneurship competition. And these
experiences make me able to blend and work in team easily.
I will be grateful if I can be accepted to enroll in TU Darmstadt's Master Program of IT Security. Because it will
give me a lot of benet, with doing state of the art researches and theses in computer securities eld of study. And
it will also allow me to live up my dream in the world of computer security.
