Fulfilment of duty ....
You should never e !ontent "ust to fulfil your duty ut should do
more than that# you should voluntarily a!!e$t a tas% &hi!h
$eo$le do not e'$e!t you to do ut &hi!h you should do for
love .... only then &ill you e lovingly a!tive and only this effort
&ill e valued and ring you lessings for eternity.
(eo$le &ho dutifully !arry out their earthly &or% elieve
themselves to have done enough. )n that !ase their life is in fa!t
a life of fulfilment of duty ut nevertheless it is not a !ons!ious
servi!e of love ....
Whatever a duty demands to e done invarialy !orres$onds to
&orldly o"e!tives. *nything that has a refining influen!e on the
soul &ill neither e demanded nor !arried out as a duty ut it
al&ays has to e done in asolute freedom of &ill#
and this is &hy a soul+s $rogress !an only e s$o%en of &hen the
$erson &or%s aove and eyond his duty and &ill not sto$ su!h
%ind,hearted a!tivity.
-o&ever# anything the human eing a!!e$ts for himself or
im$oses on others as an oligation only has earthly value# sin!e
neighourly love need not ne!essarily e the driving for!e of
fulfilling a duty. .here are# as a rule# human la&s &hi!h intend to
u$hold &orldly order# the fulfilment of &hi!h are therefore
effe!tively ne!essary in order to !omat $eo$le+s &ea% &ill#
for many $eo$le &ould not !arry out &hat they are duty,ound
to do if a sense of duty had not een !ultivated in them.
/verything they do is thus someho& or other !onditional and
results in some %ind of earthly enefit.
*n earthly &ay of life &hi!h only sho&s an endless string of
deeds# all of &hi!h fit into the !ategory of fulfilment of duty# y
no means have to result in a $sy!hologi!al state of maturity# for
precisely this fulfilment of duty prevents people from
being truly lovingly active.
*lthough the fulfilment of duty !annot e $ortrayed to $eo$le as
&rong or unne!essary# it nevertheless $oses a !ertain danger for
the human eing+s soul# for the more he uses it as a guiding
$rin!i$le of human life# the more signifi!an!e he atta!hes to
$re!isely this duty and the more he elieves himself to e
e'em$t from true a!tivities of love#
for he deems his time suffi!iently used and yet s$iritually he
stays ehind if he fails to love# i.e.# des$ite eing fully o!!u$ied
y duties# he is not urged y love to do 0more+ .... to hel$ his
fello& human eings oth s$iritually and $hysi!ally &ith deeds
&hi!h are never demanded y $eo$le and therefore love !an
never e!ome a duty either.
Fulfilment of duty on its o&n !ertainly ought to e re!ognised in
an earthly &ay ut it is of no im$ortan!e for eternity# thus the
human eing must do his utmost and try to e hel$ful of his o&n
free &ill.
-e should not e !ontent &ith fulfilling his duty ut of his o&n
a!!ord do 0more+ .... he should give and hel$ &ith love# so that
his soul &ill find salvation# &hi!h only ever enefits from &hat
the human eing does of his o&n free &ill and in selfless
neighourly love ....
