Dear Whitfeld Community,
I am pleased to announce details of Whitfelds second
Intersession term which will be held March 10-12, 2015. Our
inaugural Intersession was held last spring and based on the
feedback from students, faculty and staff, the experience was
a resounding success. In fact, in a survey administered at the
conclusion of last years term, 90% of our students said that
Intersession was a positive addition to Whitfelds curriculum
and 98% asked that Intersession continue to be offered.
Intersession work is designed to take the kind of experiential
education Whitfeld has always endorsed to a new level. An
effective intersession experience depends on gathering a small
group of students under the supervision of faculty who bring
special expertise to the curriculum. The students have a rich
choice of topics which ensure interdisciplinary thinking and
cross-grade level collaboration; characteristics truly rare in most
schools but clearly prized aspects of Whitfelds culture. The
Intersession term is Whitfelds mission statement in action.
Student and faculty interests are at the heart of Whitfelds
Intersession. To develop this years course offerings, we
examined the student and faculty evaluations from the
conclusion of last years Intersession. Some popular courses
are being repeated to give more students an opportunity to
experience them, and some new courses have arisen that will
continue to challenge and excite both students and faculty.
We are enthusiastic about the potential of this years
Intersession and the enrichment it will bring to your childs
Whitfeld experience.
