Welcome
The City of Boise is evaluating possible options for a downtown
Boise circulator system. A circulator is a public transit service that
would connect major destinations within downtown Boise.
In 2012, the city received a federal grant for an Alternatives Analysis
of the circulator. The analysis will result in a recommended mode
(vehicle) and an initial route for the circulator.
Gather input on:
> The downtown area that
should be analyzed for
the initial circulator route
> A preference for type of
vehicle that should be
used for the route, rubber
tire (bus) or fxed rail
The purpose of todays meeting is to:
Introduce the Downtown
Boise Circulator Alternative
Analysis project

Why is Boise considering a
downtown circulator?
Eleven Boise agencies worked on the Downtown
Boise Mobility Study in 2003 and a circulator was
one of the top recommendations.
The circulator could address several needs in
downtown Boise.
Shortening walking distances between offces
and other downtown destinations.
Encouraging new development in underused
lots along the route.
Building support for expanding public trans-
portation throughout Boise.
Providing transportation near underserved and
low-income areas.
Contributing to a walkable, dense urban area
that will accommodate Boises growth.
Attracting the creative workforce that already
values public transit.
Reducing Boises carbon footprint by providing
cleaner transportation options.
Allowing Boises fast-growing senior popula-
tion to stay independent and mobile.

What is an Alternatives Analysis?
The Alternatives Analysis will result in a recommended mode
(vehicle type) and an initial route for the circulator. It will include
a detailed evaluation of factors such as:
A comparison of different vehicle options (e.g., bus, rail, etc.)
Costs for operation, maintenance and capital, and potential
funding sources.
How each alternative supports local plans and goals.
Possible routes within the study area. The study area in-
cludes the Boise downtown core, the cultural district, the
Boise State University campus and the Boise Depot.
Engineering considerations such as traffc fow and utility
conficts.
Social considerations such as economic development and
potential ridership numbers.
Environmental considerations such as river crossings and
air quality.

Circulator Route
COMMENT SHEET
Please use a highlighter to identify a route(s) on the com-
ment sheet map you think should be analyzed for the initial
circulator route. Circle and/or write the names of the most
important destinations the route should connect to.
