Introduction:
What is Nuclear Energy?
Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process
called fssion. At the power plant, the fssion process is used to generate heat
for producing steam, which is used by a turbine to generate electricity.
Nuclear Energy and health
The risks associated with nuclear power arise from health efects of
radiation. This radiation consists of subatomic particles traveling at or near
the velocity of light-!",### miles per second. They can penetrate deep
inside the human body where they can damage biological cells and thereby
initiate a cancer.
Nuclear power technology produces materials that are active in emitting
radiation and are therefore called $radioactive$. These materials can come
into contact with people principally through small releases during routine
plant operation, accidents in nuclear power plants, accidents in transporting
radioactive materials, and escape of radioactive wastes from confnement
systems.
%esides this there are however many advantages associated with the
Nuclear &nergy, if one country has its nuclear energy center, it will gain a
political esteem from other countries because they will be considered
strong and advanced countries. Therefore, those advanced countries will
guarantee some safety for their citi'ens because they are unlikely to be
e(posed to any assaults from others. They are considered developed
countries and they are cherished from others.
)owever, we cannot ignore the disadvantages of the nuclear energy that
may harm not only individuals, but also the whole natural system in the
country where they are e(isted. *e can take what happened recently in
+apan as a good e(ample for this kind of calamity. ,t was -ust an
earth.uake and Tsunami that was able to afect the nuclear plant in
+apan, so it started to heat up and melt, Then it e(ploded to mar
everything in the city. A lot of people have afected by the radiation, and
pollution has spread everywhere. Also, there are evidences that cancer
cases will rise in the coming year among people in this place. Also, the
soil is no longer good to be planted. Therefore, many disasters will be
resulted from nuclear energy that cannot be ignored.
Conclusion:
,n conclusion, like everything in the world, nuclear energy has its advantages
and disadvantages. Therefore, if we use it wisely, we will have positive
efects/ otherwise, we would sufer from its shortcoming. )owever, if we still
remember the calamity that happened in )iroshima and Nagasaki, we should
stop using nuclear energy.
