+8) 'rie! #escription o! "ope Ali4e 0gan#a 9isozi 1illage C'O:
Bn Uganda most orphaned children are as a result o7 AB#S8 HBV. 9oreover with rampant
povert* these orphans canJt care 7or themselves. Old people well above (5**ears are
o7ten le7t to care them these two are helpless. )on HBV8AB#S orphans are eKuall*
vulnerable children who need to be helped. =hese children apart 7rom 7ailure to raise
school 7ees >tuitions? are also unable to meet their basic needs 7ood shelter medical
care sanitar* towel 7or mature girls and even compan*.
Hope Alive Uganda there7ore was 7ounded as response to this problems 7aced b* these
orphans.
=he organization was set up to give a hope to the lives o7 these orphans to 7ind their
tuition to pa* their education to give them relevance in li7e. Ieed them not "ust with an*
7ood but a balanced diet that gives them resistance to diseases .Also to 7inds 7or them
some shelters where possible to give them a belonging. <esponding to their ailments
8sic.ness through medical care and counseling them. Bndeed the organization has come up
to actualize them to their situations so that the* are able to overcome them.
#espite governmentJs e77ort to enable ever* bod* access education through introducing
universal primar* education >U!-? some children in .isozi village count* 7ailed to
continue with education .this is because the* canJt a77ord scholastic materials such as
uni7orms boo.s pencils 7eeding and other necessities o7 li7e.
-ven at secondar* level much as the government has tried all it can to introduce
universal secondar* education >US-? still some children especiall* orphans and need*
are unable go to school li.e their counter parts at the primar* level the* canJt a77ord the
basic necessities o7 li7e.
On top o7 that it has registered two hundred eight* 7our orphans >25'? the percentage o7
girls is higher than bo*s orphans in .isozi village.
However Hope Alive Uganda does not aim at challenging government program but to
supplement on governmentJs e77ort o7 helping orphans and the need* o7 which .isozi
village is part. And is wor.ing hand in hand with other non Lgovernment
organizations>)COS? to sort out those problems .However HAU was initiated b* a
group o7 eight people who 7elt itJs worth addressing the problems o7 orphans and
disadvantaged children and people living with AIDS9PL;S: in the communities whose
conditions o7 living have worsened especiall* in .isozi village.
=hrough commitment devotion and determination this pro"ect is helping 36 orphans out

The very low level of education among the whole population of the
community which has been attributed to the increasing number of
orphans as a result of HIV and AIDS scourge that has hit the village for
many years. Subsistence agriculture being the major way of livelihood
has made it very dicult for the parents to send their children to
school due to the increasing cost of education. The most a!ected and
vulnerable category here is the orphans with no proper care and
protection" no education" no food" no clothes and medical care. #orst"
some of the children at years low as $$ are heading families ta%ing
responsibility of catering for the young ones as well as &nding away for
their education. In an attempt to do so" they end up meeting with
young men and women to earn survival with money less than '$"
coupled with HIV and AIDS. This has encouraged and increased on the
rate of infections among the young population in %iso(i village. The
project is therefore initiated to target the orphans and the vulnerable
children and to empower them by providing education to the bright
ones and also empowering their guardians to carry out income
generating activities that would further %eep them even if the project
ended.
