Headmasters Corner
We start by congratulating the Under 9 Hockey team who won the Dean Close Tournament last Saturday. You will recall
that they came second last year so we were delighted to celebrate their success in assembly this week. They played six
games, winning five against Clifton College (3-0), Beaudesert Park (2-1), Dean Close, (6-0), St Johns (1-0) and drawing
one against The Downs (1-1). Well done to the whole team!
On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome Mrs Lewis to our Look at my
Work assembly. The children learnt all about her role within the police
force and, as you can imagine, there were a number of very good
questions but, is it just me getting older, or are police officers these days
looking younger and younger? Thank you to Ms Case for organising this.
The House Talent Show was a huge success. Look out for a full review in
next weeks Tracker!
We will be holding our Harvest Festival next Friday and I would like to
remind you that you are all welcome to attend. This year children from
Reception to Year 8 will be involved and it will be a lovely way for us to
come together before the children head off for their Half Term break.
A Winner for Lou
Congratulations to Lou Saelens who recently participated
in a drawing competition organised by a childrens
magazine called Jaime Lire. The competition was to
create a new character for the magazine. Lou recently
received a letter informing her that her drawing was one of
the top 20 chosen to be published. She also won a box of
Lego. Her drawing was entitled Steve la rgle.
FOTM News
Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who came and
supported the Quiz and Curry Night. It was a fantastic
evening enjoyed by everyone. We appear to have raised a
great amount- watch the FOTM board for the total in the
next few days. Thanks again to everyone who helped and
attended.
BONFIRE NIGHT - Please save the date of 14th
November for the ever popular bonfire night celebration at
school. This year we will be staggering the start times to
enable the younger children to come earlier and have the
option of going home earlier. The Nursery and Lower
School timings are from 4.30 pm for food, sweets and glow
sticks, 5.00 pm disco and the bonfire lighting at 6.15 pm.
The Upper School will be supervised at school as usual
until 6.00 pm when they must be collected by parents
unless boarding. They can then watch the bonfire before
making their way to the colonnade for food etc and their
disco will continue until 7.30 pm. It is always a wonderful
event so please come along and support FOTM. We will
also be holding the lovely lantern decorating competition
again please check the Tracker next week and your
childs book bag/rucksack for details.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Thank you so much to all the lovely people who came and
supported the coffee morning on Friday and to those who
also donated so many amazing cakes! I am delighted to
report that together we raised an amazing 574.40! This
money will go directly to Macmillan to help them support
those facing cancer and their families. I do hope you
enjoyed a good catch up on such a lovely sunny morning
and thank you again for everything.

Mythical Maze
Many children have taken part in the Reading Challenge at
the public library this summer and we have been
presenting medals and certificates which they earned. A
huge congratulations to the children who have taken part.
Lots of stars have been awarded and we are very proud of
your great reading habits. Keep it up!

A CHOICE OF HOMEMADE CAKES & BISCUITS AND WRAPPED BISCUITS
House Rugby
Alexander deservedly won the Cymric Cup for House
Rugby after an impressive display in their two matches.
They scored 27 tries! Alex Grocott (top try scorer) with ten,
Max Curtis (player of the tournament) with seven and
Ceredig Jones with six. They played excellent rugby
involving all the team throughout the morning.
Cunningham came second after their 3-0 win against
Churchill. James Allen was voted the most improved
player by the coaches.
Well done to all those who took part; the game was played
in the Tockington spirit. The winning team comprised
Jonathan Baguley, Jake Wakeling, Ceredig Jones, Oliver
Shutt, Max Curtis, Alex Grocott, Otis Walker, Diego Benito
and Alex Ganfield.
The Library
The library, which has nearly completed its refurbishment,
has been displaying poems for National Poetry Day and,
as the theme is remembrance, we thought a little memory
game might be a fun exercise. The display cabinet is full
of odds and ends which are fun to memorise. Mrs
Edwards helped to run the competition which tested the
children's memory after having viewed the objects for one
minute. These were the winners of the Curly Wurly prizes:
Year 3 - Kaya Priove and Lily Edwards
Year 4 Logan Fitzpatrick
Year 5 - Isabelle Preston
Year 6 - Rachel Shutt
Year 7 Ellie Parker
Year 8 - George Symonds and Tom Edwards
Well done to all.
Year 4 French
Bravo to Year 4 for a super French session this week. They
all got a top grade in the Number game! Mme Vron

Tockington Titbits
At the Children's Bath Literature Festival last week,
Michael Morpurgo was narrating his book of Private
Peaceful. After listening to the moving war novel, Angus
Duncan was fortunate enough to meet him and receive
his autograph.
Milkshake Monday Morning
It was Milkshake Monday Morning with a twist for Year 6
this week. We read lots of poems from a Silly Poems book
and had a very enjoyable time with Mrs Baglin. Thank you
again to the kitchen staff and to Mrs Baglin.
Arnolfini Trip
On Wednesday, we had two trips to the Arnolfini theatre for
The Childrens Book Show. In the morning Years 5 and 6
went to see Patrick Benson talking about his life and work
as an illustrator. Patrick has worked on over fifty books in
his thirty year career as an illustrator. His two most famous
books are The Minpins which was written by Roald Dahl,
and Owl Babies written by Martin Waddell. Our afternoon
visit was with Years 2 and 3 to see Benji Davies, who is
also an illustrator. He showed us how he went about
making characters and he invited Georgia Cooper onstage
to create a character with him. She was very proud to take
away the picture he drew for her. Both shows were very
interesting and the children were able to remember a great
deal of the information when we got back. We are very
grateful to both Mrs Baglin and Mrs Edwards for
accompanying the trips
On Thursday afternoon, we invited Patrick Benson in to
school to work with Years 5 and 6 in a workshop. The
children learned how to visualise characters through text
and they all set to drawing characters for Patricks latest
project. He gave lots of constructive help to the children
and was very patient and informative.
All of the children went home with a signed copy of The
Minpins, their own illustrations and, I hope, a great deal of
enthusiasm for books and illustrations.
Cheltenham Literature Festival
On Sunday Mrs Gooch and I are taking a group of
enthusiasts to Cheltenham Literature Festival for our
annual treat. We will be meeting Sir Robert Winston,
Jacqueline Wilson and many other writers. We are hoping
for good weather and lots of fun. If your child is on the trip,
we are leaving school at 8.30 am on Sunday and will return
at approximately 5.00 pm. Children need a packed lunch
and snacks, as well as a drink and some money to spend
on books, if they want a signing. Of course, if the weather
is inclement, waterproof coats and good walking shoes will
be needed as there is some walking to do! Cameras and
other small electricals can accompany the children, but
they will need to take responsibility for their own
belongings. We look forward to telling you all about our trip
in next weeks Tracker.
