MEMORANDUM

TO: MARTINEZ FOR GOVERNOR CAMPAIGN TEAM

FROM: NICOLE McCLESKEY
DATE: OCTOBER 9, 2014
RE: NEW MEXICO STATEWIDE SURVEY KEY FINDINGS

Governor Martinez is slamming closed the door on Gary King, leading the gubernatorial race
by a 19 point margin (55%-36%). The Martinez lead is built on a solid cross-section of the New
Mexico electorate:

Martinez has a two-to-one advantage among Independent voters (56%-27%) and wins a
majority of the soft Democrat vote (52%-34%).
Hispanic voters choose the Governor by a 46%-41% margin.

The Governor has been unscathed over the course of this election year, maintaining her
consistently high positive image. Sixty percent (60%) of New Mexico voters view Martinez
favorably.

The same cannot be said of Gary King or former Governor Bill Richardson, both of whom
suffer from significant image problems. While King is not viewed favorably by voters (34%
favorable/46% unfavorable), nearly six out of ten voters have an unfavorable view of
Richardson (34% favorable/57% unfavorable).

The Bottom Line
Voters continue to reject the politics and policies of the past, preferring the vision and
leadership of Governor Martinez.

Methodology
Public Opinion Strategies conducted a telephone survey of 500 likely voters on October 5-7,
2014. The survey has a margin of error of +4.38%. The survey included 40% of all interviews
conducted by cell phone.
