Plotting Graphs and Equations

Creating Graphs
To create a graph from the print version below.
1. Click the Graph button on the Tool Bar
The Graph dialog box will appear.
2. Select the tpe of graph re!uired. "n this case select Bar.
#. $osition the cursor in the %ata &alue box' enter the first value shown on the print
graph and press (nter. The value will be transferred to the list box on the right.
). Continue entering all the data. *ote that data is automaticall entered at the end of
the list. +n item in the list box can be deleted b selecting it and clicking the delete
button. +n item can be inserted into the list b selecting an exiting item' entering the
new value in the %ata box and clicking the "nsert button. The new data will be
inserted immediatel above the selected item.
,. -hen all the data has been entered' click the %raw Graph button.
Resizing the Graph
B default the graph will be drawn in ./0 of the available page. To rescale the graph'
enter the re!uired si1e in the %imensions box. "n this case the &ertical %ots has been set
to ,/.
+lternativel' both the si1e and position of the graph can be set b the Select tool. 2se the
Select tool to select an area of the page. Click the %raw Graph button and the graph will
be scaled and positioned in the Select Box.
To plot a graph of y=5 x sin(X)
1. Click the Graph button on the Tool Bar
The Graph dialog box will appear. %ecide whether a full page or smaller area is re!uired. "f
a smaller area is sufficient' set the number of hori1ontal or vertical dots re!uired in the
%imensions edit boxes. +lternativel' an area and page position can be set with the Select
Tool. 3Click the Select button before the Graph button4.
2. Click the (!uation (ditor button to displa the (!uation (ditor dialog box.
The default e!uation is y=X. This must be changed to y=5 x sin(X).
#. 5n the ke pad click the ,' 6' and sin buttons.
3The open bracket is automaticall inserted b the sin button4. *ow move the cursor to the
end of the line and click the Close Bracket button
). To see what this looks like' click the Solve7 button.
This shows a plot of the e!uation with a 8ange and %omain of 91/ to :1/. B default the
e!uation is plotted in rectangular coordinates. The graph can be better displaed b
altering the 8ange' %omain and Scale ;actor settings to reflect polar coordinates and the
gaps in the plot can be filled in b increasing the 8esolution.
Change the ;rom value of x to 0 and the To value of x to 2*pi. This sets the 8ange
to one complete ccle of the sin wave.
Change the ;rom and To values of y to -6 and 6
Change the 8esolution to 2.
Change the 6 Scale ;actor to pi!2.
Click the Solve7 button to see the changes.
To create a plot from a text book example such as the one below.
1. To enter the e!uation <"
2
' place the cursor after the 6 and click the 6 s!uared button
The e!uation will displa as "
#
2.
2. Set the 8ange from -$ to $.
#. Set the %omain from 0 to 6.
). Set the 8esolution to $.
,. Set the = Scale ;actor to 2.
>. Click the Solve7 button.
?. "n the (!uation edit box' enter < "%2.
.. Change the 8esolution to & so that the line will not be too thick.
@. Click the Solve7 button.
1/. 2se the ;ill +rea tool to fill the shaded area.
11. 2se the Aabel tool to add the re!uired braille labelling.
