international suppliers with high technology competence to decide the manufacturing process at an
optimum cost and meeting the quality requirements.
Finally, the testing team undertakes rigorous testing activities to evaluate the performance of the
component at system level and at vehicle level. Their role is critical as they just not test the
components/vehicle using instruments, but also conduct subjective analysis to understand the elements like
noise & vibration.
Till the time, a vehicle reaches Start of Production (SOP); everyone is contributing to ensure that the vehicle
is world class. And even after SOP they work together, whenever a market problem is reported. Thus, being
a part of engineering vertical calls for working with own hands, innovative mindset and ability to learn from
failures.
Coming at a very young age, engineers need to hone their technical skills over 2-3 project cycles, working
their own hands, learning the basic and advanced product, material and manufacturing technologies.
Engineers are exposed to working on new products, and at times teaming up with Suzuki engineers in Japan.
The innovations of the engineers are converted into patents. Opportunities are provided to present design
innovations at international forums, visit Global auto shows and technology centers to expand their horizons.

Information Technology Division
IT has been one of the biggest pillars of strength for MSIL which helped the car giant meet rigid production
deadlines and efficiently control the backend operations. Maruti Suzuki also takes pride in the fact that most of
the applications were developed in-house using oracle and MS technologies. Some of which even merit replication
in other SMC (Suzuki Motor Corporation) operations overseas.
IT forms the backbone of all the operations. If number were any indication of the volume of the business, some
18000 consignments from different suppliers reach MSIL everyday still the average domestic inventory remains
lean. Cars worth millions are sold every day, on all a click of the mouse.
MSIL IT workforce consists of Engineers, MCAs and MBAs from reputed institutes and IT works on the hybrid
model of outsourcing regular activities while concentrating in-house in functional and strategic areas. The strength
of the permanent IT task force is 80 and more than 150 outsourced. MSIL IT team has functional experts from
various domains who work collaboratively with end users to define the business requirements.
Extensive use of IT has enabled Maruti Suzuki to strategically align its value chain in the automobile industry. This
in turn has insured that MSIL has always been in meeting targets. Proper IS planning and innovative use of IT in
MARUTI SUZUKI has not only aided the flow of information within the organization but has also facilitated the
management decision making process. The IT department at MARUTI SUZUKI has evolved from being a mere
support function to the role of a business facilitator in an environment where making informed business decisions
