ROBOT PROGRAMMING PRACTICAL/DEMONSTRATION
(Mechatroni cs Lab)

COURSE OUTCOMES
CO3 Design a robotics and automation system as applicable in manufacturing activities.
CO4 Organize a multidisciplinary team for design of robotics and automation systems in industry.

OBJECTIVE
To develop a computer ATS programmer and simulate the running operations of the above case
study.

CASE STUDY: Roboti cs Programmi ng and Si mul ati on
Design and simulate the robotic arms movement to transfer a product from one workstation to the
unloading station.

PROCEDURE
i. Study carefully the maual of the robot given during laboratory practical.
ii. Develop the ATS programme for the case study.
iii. Run the ATS programme.
iv. Check whether the developed programme meets the requirement of the case study.
v. Confirm the programme and let the programme runs continuously.
vi. Record the joint angles and repective cartesion positions for each position of the robot.

REPORT
i. Draw the physical layout of your robotics system.
ii. Write the ATS programme.
iii. Discussion and recommendations of your robotic's layout and programme developed.
iv. Discussion on the joints angle and cartesian position of the robot based on the sequence
of your robot programme developed.
v. Conclusion to include what you learnt from the programme developed and physical
simulation of the robotic system designed.

CONCLUSION
State the outcome of the results and analysis.


Note:
i. Students are grouped in 3-5 persons per group.
ii. For the case study programming assignment, students are requested to make appointments
with the Lab Technician to complete their programming assignment. A one (1) hour lab
session for each group should be sufficient to complete their practical assignment.

The SCORBOT-ER 5plus is a dependable and safe robotic system designed for laboratory
and training applications. The versatile system allows students to gain theoretical and practical
experience in robotics, automation and control systems.
The SCORBOT ER Splus is ideally suited in FMS and basic CIM tasks as well as
studentdesigned robotic workcells and applications. The system's continuous path, real-time,
multi-tasking controller can monitor and control up to 11 axes, 16 inputs and 16 outputs,
enabling support and integration of numerous peripheral devices.
The system offers students many ways to practice and master the programming of
robotic workcells. SCORBASE software enables intuitive programming and operation of the
SCORBOT ER Splus and workcell devices. Optional RoboCell software provides 3D dynamic
simulation of the robotic workcell during position teaching and program execution. RoboCell
also allows students to create and control simulated industrial workcells of their own design.
Students can also program and control the robotic system in ACL, the controller's
internal programming language, using the ATS interface or any interface program created in
languages such as C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Visual Basic.NET and Delphi.
The open structure of the vertically articulated 5-axis robot arm enables study of its
design and electro-mechanical operations. Students can also manipulate the controller's
parameters and examine the affect of PID and other control parameters on capabilities such as
accuracy, speed, repeatability and error correction. The integration of mechanics, electronics
and control in one system makes SCORBOT ER Splus the perfect tool for training in
mechatronics.
