They all have direct address, as the person/people in the main image are all looking directly at the
camera. Also with the main image, bands have full body shots, whereas solo artist photos have a
medium close up shot. Plus, the pictures are all covering the masthead.
2. Why are these features present on all of the magazines? Why are they important?
They are all present on the magazine because direct address appeals more to the target audience,
since they will recognise the artist on the cover better if they are looking at the camera, meaning if
they recognise their favourite artist or an artist they know they are more likely to buy it. The fact
that band images are full body shots is so that the image doesnt take up too much room which
leaves less room for the cover lines. The medium close up of solo artists means that they are
recognised more easily by the target audience. The fact that all the pictures are covering the
masthead is because the magazines are famous, therefore the full masthead doesnt need to be
seen for it to be recognised, however, it also means that there is more room for the rest of the front
cover contents because it isnt taken up by the image leaving room for the masthead.

I know that the magazine called music is about classical music. One reason for this is because the
person in the main image is wearing a smart ball gown style dress, which means that the artist they
are showing is from a genre where performances are smarter. Another reason why I know that this
magazine is about classical music is because the person in the main image is holding a violin. As she
is holding it, it implies that is the main instrument she plays and is known for playing, and since the
violin is associated more with classical music rather than genres such as pop, it implies the magazine
is based around classical music. Another reason why I know this magazine is about classical music is
because it uses a simple, smart font. This implies that the music it is based on is also simple and
smart, because it will appeal to a more mature audience since the music style is more mature.
Finally, I know this magazine is for the classical sub-genre because it has a coverline which discusses
a feature called composer of the month.
