MODULE 4 Assignment: Curation Criteria to Assess Effective Curation

Mark Briggs, Journalism Next

Question Yes No
#1 Can you clearly find a specific goal for the content being curated? (Kantor,
2011)

Comments: (What is the goal/the objective? Is it clearly identified?)
The objectives, to provide resources for pre calculus are clearly identified.

X
#2 Is there a specific topic identified? (Kantor, 2011)

Comments: (What is the main topic of focus?)
Yes! Resources for pre-calculus.

X
#3 Is the material organized successfully by content? (Cohen, 2012)

Comments: (Does it have a natural flow?)
This is one area that I think you can improve upon. I know that it is difficult
to organize resources. Perhaps you could organize them by topics within
pre-calc.

X
#4 Does the curation provide a unique learning experience for the audience?
Was it engaging, eye catching and creative?(Rosenbaum, 2012)

Comments: (Explain the format of the learning piece. Does the piece
make others want to comment, be involved and participate?)
I thought this was difficult to accomplish and you did a fairly good job.
However, there is an option to add a visual to each curated item. I would
recommend the items without visuals you add this to them. It would really
help you page pop.

X
#5 Were thoughts and guidance included within the curation to provide
understanding? Did the curator summarize, edit, comment and give
thoughts on the topic? (Weisgerber, 2012)

X
Comments: (Did the expert revise and annotate the material? Explain)
I thought your comments were excellent and very specific throughout your
curation.

#6 Were resources carefully filtered with the specific goal or topic in
mind?(Stanic, 2013)

Comments:
I thought you had a clear topic (pre-calc) and goal (resources). All your
curations directly dealt with this.

X
#7 Do the title and introduction to the curation clearly show what the curation
is about and why it is relevant to the audience?(Good, 2011)

Comments:

I thought your title was very clear and would be easily understood by your
target audience. This curation would be extremely relevant to your current
students.

X
#8 Were all resources fully explored and not just glanced over, to determine if
they truly deserve your recommendation?(Rosenbaum, 2012)

Comments: (Did you read through each resource in its entirety to ensure
that it fits your topic and goal, rather than just reading the title and posting.
If the full webpage, blog, video does not apply, did you include comments
to guide the audience toward the relevant portion?)

Based on your analysis it appears that you fully explored every
recommendation

X
#9 Does the curation provide the audience with valuable network ties for
future learning?(Leigh, 2007)

Comments:
You provided your audience with multiple resources! These would be
excellent resources for them to use in the future.

X
#10 Is the content relevant to the audience? (Good, 2011)

Comments: (Who is the audience? Does the topic relate directly to the
chosen audience? Explain.)

These topics are completely relevant to a precalculus class.

X
#11 Does the curator provide his/her own insight to the topic? (DeMers, 2014)

Comments:
You did a great job of saying the strengths and weaknesses of each of the
sites you.

X
#12 Does this collection promote participation? (Mihailidis, 2013)

Comments:
I think that this really could promote participation. As a teacher you could
require students to check the sites and ask a question uniquely found on
one of those sites. Technically there really is no way to promote
participation, that I could find, on ScoopIt.

X
#13 Is attribution provided for resources curated. (Cohen, 2012)

Comments:

Yes!
X
#14 Is there diversity of sources provided? (Mihailidis, 2013)

Comments:
Yes! Good job using a variety of different sites and YouTube videos.

X
#15 Is the curator sharing their piece successfully online? (Weisgerber, 2011)

Comments: (What public domain was used to post the piece? Facebook,
Twitter, Diigo, Google Reader, etc. Was it successful to inform that
specific audience?)
You did an excellent job of sharing this project in multiple locations:
WordPress, Facebook, Google Plus and via email!
