Arc Flash Analysis
The purpose of this tutorial is to introduce the Arc Flash Analysis module of ET
AP, and provideinstructions on how to perform Arc Flash calculations. You will n
eed to contact OTI with your Return Key Code so that you can activate this modul
e. For this section of the tutorial you should select Example Project (ANSI) optio
n when starting ETAP 5.5.5 Demo.
Entering Arc Flash Data for a Bus
ETAP Arc Flash has typical equipment gap and X-factors built into the rating pag
e of the bus.You can take advantage of these typical values to perform a quick A
rc Flash calculation.

Open the editor for Bus1 and go to the rating page of the bus and select the typ
e of equipment that is represented by the bus. This can be enclosed equipment li
ke MCC or Switchgears or open-air equipment (not enclosed in a box). Once you ha
ve selected theequipment type, select typical Gap & Boundary values by clicking
on the Typical Gapand Boundary button. This will bring all required gap and x-fact
or information as wellas approach boundaries as defined by NFPA 70E.

Go to the Arc Flash page and select the working distance. This is defined as the
distancefrom the persons torso and face to the energized equipment (typically 18
inches for lowvoltage equipment). You may also define the type of system ground
ing of the equipmentfeeder (i.e. transformer grounding / source grounding like s
olidly grounded or delta). If
