Getting Started with Cisco NetSpace
What is Cisco NetSpace? Q1.
A. Cisco NetSpace is the new Networking Academy online learning environment that replaced Academy
Connection. NetSpace features Canvas from Instructure; a learning management system designed for tech-
savvy students, with integrated collaboration and communication tools. NetSpace supports the development
of 21st century career skills as part of the learning experience, to give students a competitive edge in the
global workforce.
I forgot to upgrade to NetSpace before Academy Connection closed, is it too late? Q2.
A. If you forgot to upgrade your account to Cisco NetSpace before Academy Connection closed, you can
upgrade your account by following the steps below:
1. Go to www.netacad.com
2. Click the link to upgrade to Cisco NetSpace in the box at the top of the page.
3. Enter your username and password into the appropriate fields on the new page.
4. Create your Cisco NetSpace login and profile information.

How can I get help with NetSpace? Q3.
A. If you need help with NetSpace, please contact your academy instructor for assistance. If you need additional
help, starting 5 September 2013, when you click the Help link on the Cisco NetSpace website, you will be
routed to the Cisco Networking Academy Facebook page, where you can post a question. With this new
model, youll have an opportunity to receive support from more than 500K peers. NetAcad Support Desk
representatives will also be monitoring Facebook posts to answer your questions.
What is the recommended browser for the NetSpace site? Q4.
A. NetSpace performance is best with the two most current versions of the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox,
Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. We recommend the Firefox and Chrome browsers for the best user
experience. For more information, please review the Cisco NetSpace System Recommendations.
What is an acceptable format for my screen name in NetSpace? Q5.
A. When you log in to NetSpace for the first time, you will be asked to complete the initial registration of your
profile. A screen name will be generated based on your first and last name. You can change the screen name
if you prefer, within the following parameters:
It can be no more than 40 characters
It cannot contain spaces
Your screen name must contain English characters
All screen names are case sensitive
If the new screen name you enter doesnt conform to these rules, the system will display a detailed error
message.
How can I reset my NetSpace password? Q6.
A. Students should use the Forgot Password process to reset their password. Click the Forgot Password link
at the bottom of the NetSpace sign in area to start the process.
Why is my date of birth required when I register my profile? Q7.
A. NetAcad offers a variety of online services and tools to NetSpace users that have certain legal limitations and
liabilities associated with them. To protect our program participants and Cisco from misuse of those services
and tools, we have built authentication logic into NetSpace. This system is used to validate users who are of
legal age based on their date of birth and the age verification agreement. If these user-driven responses do
not match the minimum age limits, then we are unable to extend these services to the user.
Please be assured that this information is confidential and will only appear in your private user profile.
How can the date of birth be changed? Q8.
A. After a date of birth is entered, the user will be unable to modify the value online, so it is important that the
information is entered correctly. If the date of birth is entered incorrectly, please contact the Support Desk for
assistance.
What happened to the Alumni Connection area and Forums and Chat on Academy Connection? Were Q9.
they transitioned to NetSpace?
A. The Alumni Connection area and functionality that existed on Academy Connection is no longer available.
Cisco will continue to consider benefits and offerings for Networking Academy alumni. NetAcad alumni are
encouraged to join our social communities on Facebook or Linked In.

What is the difference between Cisco NetSpace and Academy NetSpace? Q10.
A. Cisco Netspace is our new interactive learning environment that replaced Academy Connection. Academy
NetSpace is the gaming site available at www.academynetspace.com. To avoid confusion, we have renamed
links and references to the gaming site to Academy NetSpace Games. The site URL and site content will
remain the same. In the future, we plan to incorporate the games into the Cisco NetSpace environment.
Curriculum and Tools Access
After upgrading to Cisco NetSpace, how do I access the course content I completed on Academy Q11.
Connection?
A. To access previously completed courses in Cisco NetSpace, students and alumni should send an email
request to the Global Support Desk as soon as possible at academy-alumni@netacad.net. Please include
your full name and Academy Connection or Cisco NetSpace ID or username in your request.
The Global Support Desk will add the currently available revisions of courses you completed in Academy
Connection to your Cisco NetSpace account. This process may take up to thirty days, so please plan
accordingly.
Can Cisco CCNA

Discovery and CCNA Exploration alumni access CCNA courses and resources on Q12.
Cisco NetSpace?
A. Yes, CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration alumni can request access to either CCNA Discovery or CCNA
Exploration courses using the process described above. Access to the new CCNA Routing and Switching
courses will not be provided at this time. However, CCNA alumni who are registered users on NetSpace can
access the CCNA Routing and Switching bridging materials. The bridging materials are a comprehensive set
of supplemental materials that have been developed to help students who have completed CCNA Discovery
or CCNA Exploration courses transition to the new CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum or prepare for
the new Cisco CCENT

or CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam.

Students and alumni can download the materials from the CCNA Routing and Switching Bridging Materials
page on Cisco NetSpace.
How can NetSpace users download Cisco Packet Tracer? Q13.
A. The Packet Tracer software is available for all NetSpace users to download. Links to access or download
Packet Tracer are located within the NetSpace classroom environment. Please check with your instructor to
ensure that your classroom environment is using the latest version, to avoid incompatibility issues between
the new and old PT versions.
Where can I find more information about the new CCNA Routing and Switching (R&S) curriculum and Q14.
