GK is a deepwater platform (FPS) located 120 km offshore Borneo with water depth 1200 m.
It is mainly a gas field (62 MMSCF/d) and it is to be explored through a profit sharing
contract (PSC) between Sh(operator, 33%), CoPi(33%), PCSB (20%) and MO (14%). The
facilities design project team has engaged your group to carry out a preliminary design
concept of managing flow in the 1
st
lens, tying 12 subsea wells back to the FPS onto the
various processes on this facility. The FPS is equipped with a water reinjection facility which
is projected to be used during the 4
th
year of the facilitys production term. A simplified
schematic representing the task given to your group is shown below.

Determine the process involved and sizes of the main equipment/components, piping and
relief system.
Justify your design based on technical grounds and the use of appropriate codes and
standards. All members are encouraged to use Aspen-Hysys, PipeSim etc to simulate and
help justify the design options selected. Write a proposal to consolidate your design and
findings obtained throughout the project duration. Your proposal should convince your
clients on the design options selected for the project.
Your project will be evaluated for its technical content, correctness of concepts and the use
of sound engineering principles. Your group will be invited to defend their proposal
forthnightly.

GROUP PROJECT
Some Advice
You need to learn to work in group because one mans effort is too limited to be of any use.
When working in a group, it is your responsibility to figure out what can you contribute to
the group; not wait for the responsibility to be assigned. You need to be pro-active to
communicate your contribution.
In reality, information is always insufficient, not available or sometimes, wrong. This is the
time group has to pull their brains together to think logically and rationally what is the right
way forward.
The difficulty arises working in group because different people has different background,
culture, history, believe, IQ/EQ, speed of learning and adaptation, communication skills. In
short, the difficulty arise because of different capabilities exist for different individual. There
is no solution to this problem. But there are different optional strategies one can follow with
various consequences:
1. Let the high speed runner run, low speed runner chase.
2. Stop the high speed runner to wait for the low speed runner to catch up.
3. Push the high speed runner down, and the pull low speed runner ahead.
4. We all dont run and pull the plug.
Remember, while you select the best option for your group, the whole world is running at
full speed.
You will belong to either Group A or B, under which further branches into engineering sub-
group, responsible for the main tasks.
Each person is required to specialized in at least one tangible specialist skill set, e.g. gas
injection facilities specialist, pipeline/piping design specialist, separator specialist, heater,
etc., so that you could be identified by your skill set.
Every 2 weeks, there will be a presentation reporting the groups progress, decision and way
forward.
