Presentacin del curso.

My name is Manuel de Damas, I am a lawyer and researcher of ancient Greek texts for which I felt a
deep interest since my childhood, and a few years ago I found myself obliged to review, due to the
situation of personal and social crisis lived in Spain and I could see howalmost all of what we had built
our expectations, fell down, so I considered critical to look back to what I acknowledge to be the
foundation of our Western culture, to rebuilt my identity.

Based in my studies and in this experience I have created a course that I ampresenting nowwith this
talk: A course in Mythology, These myth and heroes to be remembered as the word meaning in
greek are in my opinion particularly relevants today, as beings that lived in the truly human condition
of mortality and in a world plenty of contradictions and obstacles that they had to overcome to have
a truly and safe homecoming which is the recovery of their true identity.

Why this course?

The study of the ancient Greek texts offer us the opportunity to better investigate- known ourselves,
[gnthi seauton], which is the word in greek. This is one of the main objectives of the course to know
ourselves to overcame personals limitations (that is what a hero made) and through a shared
readings enriched by the different interpretations of the texts that each of the participants in the
course can make, discover our deepest emotions related to the topics covered and release them
through identification with the characters, what the greeks call [katharsis], in order to improve our
habits, [Ethos], sifting our values to build a better world for us.

More deeply, the participant could review the role that as an individual occupies in the community
and in the world and their relationship with the nature trying to fill in their rightful place, (essential
theme in the ancient culture), place, that in my opinion we are lost by the attempt to dominate the
nature through technological development.

Moreover, this is a project to create through the study of ancient Greek texts, a life plan more in
communion with our true values as individuals in community in order to have a better and personal
development and a full flourishinglife. [Eudaimonia].

These are the aims that this course try to inspire and transform us through the knowledge of the
ancient greek texts in human beings living in harmony with the single purpose for which each one were
created. Little ambitious, you could say, perhaps, but in my opinion necessary in the disoriented,
uncertain, fragile and unpredictable world that we live.


How is the structure of the course?

The course is made using Prezi presentations where text and images are mixed, the selected texts are
readed and discussed in class. Participants have the opportunity to give their opinion on the different
texts. The course lasts for eight months, two hours per week. Selected major texts studied are Epic; the
Iliad and the Odyssey and Lyric selected texts of Pindaro and Sapho, The Histories of Herodoto,
tragedies of authors like Esquilo, Sophocles, Eurpides and Philosophy (Dialogues of Plato) and
Aristotle's,.

I would like to end my talk with a two quotes:

One from Herodotus: that he said:

"Who has not read the Iliad and the Odyssey is not a civilized person".

And one from Aristotles

We are what we repeatedly do, Excellence them, is not an act but a habit,

So when the participant finish the course they will be, I hope, according with this definitions a civilized
human beings with excellents habits.

La necesidad de estudiar los textos griegos antiguos.
El estudio de los textos griegos nos ofrecen la posibilidad de conocernos mejor a nosotros mismos y a
travs de una lectura en comn enriquecernos con las distintas interpretaciones que de los textos
puedan hacer los participantes en curso para as descubrir nuestras ms profundas emociones
relacionadas con los temas que se tratan y as liberarlas a travs de la identificacin con los
personajes, para as mejorar nuestros hbitos de conducta para llegar a tener una vida buena.

Quines son sus audiencias? Nivel de entendimiento? Cualquier consideraciones culturales?
La audiencia sern personas de un nivel cultural alto.

Mi nombre es Manuel de Damas soy abogado e investigador de los textos Griegos antiguos por los que
he sentido un profundo inters desde nio, y que hace unos aos me v en la obligacin de revisar,
debido a la situacin de crisis personal y social en que vivamos por lo que consider fundamental
volver la vista a lo que considero que son las bases de nuestra cultura occidental.

2. Lectura en comn de los textos con lo que se produce un enriquecimiento con las distintas
opiniones de los participantes (Crear una comunidad)
3. Conocimiento mejor de uno mismo a travs de la identificacin de los personajes, descubrir y
liberar nuestras ms profundas emociones identificndose con los personajes (Katarsis).
4. Despus de las crisis necesitamos cribar nuestros valores para construir un mundo mejor para
eso es necesario volver la vista para buscar las bases o fundamentos sobre los cuales fue
construida nuestra sociedad y estos estn en la cultura griega antigua.(cribar).
5. De forma ms profunda revisar el papel que el hombre ocupa en el mundo y su relacin con la
naturaleza tratando de ocupar el lugar que nos corresponde en ella y que hemos perdido por
el intento de dominarla a travs del desarrollo tecnolgico.(Revisar)
6. Teleolgico, en la naturaleza todo tiene su fin segn deca Aristteles, Transformarnos en seres
humanos con una vida en armona con ese fin individual para el que hemos sido creados.
7. Este es un proyecto para crear a travs del estudio de los textos griegos antiguos, un plan de
vida mas en comunin con nuestros verdaderos valores como individuos para as tener un
mejor desarrollo como personal y una vida ms ntegra.
8. Cmo va a enlazar los puntos principales?

-Estructura del curso:
El curso se realiza mediante presentaciones de Prezi, donde se mezclan textos e imgenes, en las
clases se leen y comentan en comunidad los textos escogidos de las diferentes obras. Teniendo la
oportunidad los participantes de dar su opinin sobre los diferentes textos. El curso tiene una duracin
de 8 meses, dos horas semanales,

Desarrolle su charla a un nivel en el que usted se sienta cmodo que est pulido razonable. No se
exceda en el trabajo ella. Llame a su fin, mientras que usted todava est agradablemente
comprometido con el tema, la forma de su narrativa y el desarrollo de sus diversas partes.

Voy a finalizar mi charla con una cita de Herodoto: Quien no ha leido la Iliada y la Odisea no es una
persona civilizada





Y otra de Italo Calvino en su ensayo porque leer los clsicos.
Se llama clsicos a los libros que constituyen una riqueza para quien los ha ledo y amado, pero que
constituyen una riqueza no menor para quien se reserva la suerte de leerlos por primera vez en
las mejores condiciones para saborearlos.
