CHARGING CROC ANDREW
LUTER
MANUEL ANTONIO, COSTA RICA
LOCATION_
This was shot at a private greenspace preserve connecting
Manual Antonio National Park with the nearby forest. The
location acts as a wildlife corridor for the many animals that
inhabit the park. We were hoping to shoot butterflies at the local
butterfly garden, but found a more interesting quarry instead.
INSPIRATION _
It was a muggy and overcast day. We were deep in the jungle
and it was dark. The sun started to break through and made a
shaft of light onto the croc. He was startled by another croc and
started to charge forward. Luckily, we were pretty far away on
a bridge (thank god for zoom lenses). I had been shooting at
slower shutter speeds due to the low light conditions, but in this
case, it helped to capture the motion of his charge.

I was driving out to the airport to pickup a friend, waiting
for his ‘got my bags’ phone call, when I pulled off an exit
and noticed the massive size of the clouds rolling in.
INSPIRATION _
At the time I took this shot, I noticed the massive clouds
rolling in made the mountains below them look miniscule.
I sat there in my car thinking about how excited I used to
get seeing these same mountains pop up on the horizon
whenever my family would make the drive out to Denver
from Cleveland to visit my sister. Back then seeing these
mountains were an indication that my endless laps on our
200 vertical foot-hills in Ohio were about to pay off as I’d
finally arrived in “ski country”, and I’d soon be bragging
to my friends back in Cleveland how I got to ski actual
mountains for a week!

I was covering the La Ruta Bike Race. It is a 4
day XC race across Costa Rica. It is brutal. As a
photographer it sucked and as an athlete it must
have been absolute hell.
INSPIRATION _
I traveled across Costa Rica on foot, motorbike,
ATV and in a jeep and all in the rain. The race was
over 4 days and when I finally got to the last day I
had taken so many images that I was almost over
it, not to mention the mud and rain. The whole
time I wanted some colors and some scenery that
explained the culture I had seen over the last 3
days. Sometimes this is hard when your main focus
is capturing the sport. I finally found it on the last
day heading into Limon. This abandon house was
beside a train track, the area was poor and riders
had to ride 10km of train tracks after this. It is my
favorite image from the trip.

Soulac-sur-Mer, found on the most northern tip
of the Medoc, is a well-known surfing spot and
a great one to start off your surfing trips. Last
July, being fed up with our university activities,
we were in need of a quick break and decided
to pay the guys of Ripstar (Camps) a visit. They
provided us with some food and shelter whilst
Mother Nature provided us with waves.
INSPIRATION _
No-one in particular. Just a lot of guys of the
former Wheels and Wax forums. I’ve learned
tons from those guys
