DESIGN DRAWINGS
What contractor does is carrying out construction work as defined in the design drawings of the
planners. In general, it is true. But of course there are standard procedures in construction
management, which involves elements of owner, consultant and the contractor. They regulate
the implementation of design drawings to a series of plan until its ready to be implemented in
the field.

Design drawings become an important media to link between owners design and
implementation on field. Thats why design drawings should be made with great level of details
so that implementers can easily understand what to do, without causing any differences
interpretation. However, what happened in the field is not always so.

To make design drawings must be pay attention to the who will use the object, which consists of
executive/supervisory, foreman, and workers. We should note their ability of understanding in
reading and perceiving the picture of design drawings. The ability between supervisor and
foreman or worker probably would be quite different. A good design drawing is not difficult for
them to understand, will not waste time due to the image discussion, and avoid the occurrence
of execution errors due to misperceptions. With the understands of the users, design drawings
will be an effective media of communication on construction.

The making of design drawing itself is only some part of engineering tasks. The task itself is
coordinating the preparation of all engineering process, including construction engineering
calculations, performing VE (value engineering), make the design drawings, time control and
supervise the execution of engineering projects so that the implementation can go according to
plan and targets that has been set.

Preparation of design drawing is so important in the construction process. In addition to its
function as a union of languages on the construction field, thats why it is necessary to note the
following points:

Design drawing of the consultant or owner must be detail. A design in the first phase as a
product planner does not have to be detail, but at least the work items are clearly illustrated. If
only lack of detail on dimensions or material type identification, it can be directly added. But if
there are items that actually must be in the system but not illustrated, it is necessary to clarify
by the planner, for example on the forum meetings.
Detail levels of design drawing are at:
Clear position work with key plan and lines (axles and grid)
Notation of image or legend that clearly shows the type of work or materials
The size and elevation are evident in each item of work
The dimensions are accurate (using millimeters)
Note or records that clearly show the method of works

Avoiding the differences between various parties. There is usually happened a difference
between the contract drawings, Bill of Quantity, and RKS (Rencana Kerja dan Syarat), either in
the volume of work or work items. Design drawings may serve to clarify, which one will be used.
This needs a coordination meeting with owner, in order to get common understanding and
achieving optimal system. From this design drawings volume of work will be calculated.

Provide a clear and detailed reference for implementation in the field. Similarity in
understanding the frame of the work required in the field. This starts from the quality of design
drawing itself, even itll socialization forum about design drawings to the field team (site
manager, executive/supervisory, subcontractors, foremen and workers). Detail level of design
drawing must be clear, so there is no difference of perception in reading the image. Besides
that, the design drawings must be well distributed to all relevant parties, both field teams and
cost control.

To support the schedule in order to stay on track. Perhaps some people think that process of
detailing the design drawing preventing the construction process. In fact, its helping the
managerial side. Design drawing is absolutely necessary, it will clarity and easily understanding
on the implementation of the work, also to avoid mistakes in the work that led to the re-work,
which of course affects the swelling time and costs.

EXPERTS CERTIFICATION BY LPJK (LEMBAGA PENGEMBANGAN JASA KONSTRUKSI)
Law No. 18 Year 1999 on Services Construction has mandated that all workers who worked on a
construction work must have a certificate of expertise and/or skills. So that LPJK need to be
established Registrasi Tenaga Ahli Jasa Konstruksi dengan Keputusan Dewan Lembaga
Pengembangan Jasa Konstruksi Nasional.

Experts construction certification services intended to declare competence in a scientific
discipline in the field of construction services. The purpose of certification is to provide objective
information to the user that the expert had competence qualifications.

Terms Classification and Qualification
1. Classification is based on mastery of skills and knowledge of scientific disciplines and
expertise applying certain methods and techniques that are innovative and creative in
order to achieve a particular outcome independently or in groups in a construction
work.
2. Qualification is based on the depth of expertise in a particular competence of one's
knowledge and experience.

Principles Certification
Accredited Professional shall implement their certification program based on the right
procedures and processes:
1. National, the services of the certification program can be easily followed by all members
who required in all regions of Indonesia;
2. Non-discrimination to its members, each member will got equal services and treatment
in the certification program;
3. To be honest and fair;
4. Capable to handle the certification requests and provide certainty to its members in
each area, set the time available for them to follow the certification program.
