Welcome to our language classes!

The majority of you will have enrolled to take this language class as an
extra, i.e. as 3 credits. Only a few departments allow !" language
units as options, i.e. # credits. $lease check that you are registered on
the correct unit and that your tutor and the !" hold the correct
information.
%f you are a &isiting' (xchange student taking 3 credits, you need to
advise us if this course is one of your options.
We expect you to commit to your language class for one semester. %f
you withdraw )efore the end of the semester, we will keep you
registered on *+,%* and the result will )e recorded as -withdrawn..
/ou are expected to attend regularly and advise your tutor if you need
to miss a class for genuine reasons. /ou will only make progress in the
language if you put in extra study time 0 123 hours for 3 credit units, 32
4 hours for # credit units.

/our tutor will give you'email you a programme outline, which includes
deadlines for assessments. %f you are una)le to attend a class when an
assessment is scheduled, or you need an extension to a deadline for a
genuine reason, it is your responsi)ility to contact your language tutor.
Otherwise, we will apply 5niversity regulations regarding late or very
late assessment.
*tudents taking 3 credits will have two hours6 contact time7 #2credit
students will attend the same two hours plus an extra hour timeta)led
separately.
3 credit units are assessed via 899: coursework covering reading,
writing, listening and speaking during the course of the semester. or
students taking # credits, the coursework component will count for
39: and the exam during the assessment period #9:.
%f you are a postgraduate student attending one of the undergraduate
language units, you are not re;uired to take the assessments )ut if you
do, we can record the result as -interest only..

/our tutor will advise you on how you will receive feed)ack on your
progress and assessments.
$lease remem)er that any assessment work you hand in needs to )e
your own. We will therefore treat all of the following as cheating and
penalties will apply< asking @rst language speakers for help,
colla)oration with other students, using translation software, copying
all or part of someone else6s work. "heck with your tutor if you are at

We would like to encourage you to make use of the facilities in the *elf

study.
