In August On My Own invited Cal

OSHA to our office and our
Residential Care Facility for the
Elderly (RCFE) to inspect our
policies and procedures regarding
on the job safety for our
employees. The Cal OSHA
representative spent the day
touring our office, the RCFE, and
reviewing our policies and
procedures. The only area she
found that On My Own was lacking
in was a more detailed Bloodborne
Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
With the help of our Registered
Nurse, Susie Shields, we quickly
revised our training and held a
new training for all staff.

ADOPT A FAMILY DONATION PROGRAM

Its that time of year again. On My Owns Empowered Parenting
Program (EPP) puts together a donation program to provide gifts
for the children of the adults we serve in ILS and EPP. Our
clients may not have the money during the holiday season for
their children. We request the public to adopt a family to buy
toys, clothes, and other necessary items for the children. If you
or someone you know is interested, please contact Sara Liston at
916-342-6907, for more details of an updated list of a family
available to adopt.

The Cal OSHA representative recommended On My Owns RCFE for Golden Gate recognition award,
which was awarded once a comprehensive company Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Plan was
adopted. This award represents a commitment to continuously improve the efforts to keep
employees healthy and safe while on the job. You can find our companys name, number 92, on the

MEET OUR NEW ILS & EPP PROGRAM MANAGER!
ON MY OWN COMMUNITY SERVICES AWARDED
THREE-YEAR CARF ACCREDITATION
Welcome John Shufelberger to On My Own Team!
John is joining us as the Independent Living Service &
Empowered Parenting Program Manager. John is from
Redding, California, where he grew up working for his
familys roofing business. Starting in 1999, he worked
12 years for Shascade Community Services, where he
designed, implemented and managed several
programs. He specialized in providing social and
recreational opportunities to developmentally
disabled individuals living independently, or with
family. John holds a Masters Degree in English and is
pursuing a second degree in Psychology.
On My Own Community Services is proud to
announce that we have received a Three-Year
Accreditation from the Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
for our Vocational Services Programs. This is the
second 3-year accreditation that the
international commission has awarded to On My
Own Community Services. CARF is an
independent international organization, whose
focus is on ensuring that only high-quality
services get the CARF accreditation.
An organization receiving a Three-Year Accreditation outcome has put itself through a rigorous
peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its
programs and services are of the highest quality. This accreditation decision represents the
highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows substantial
conformance to the CARF standards.
