Preface
This manual mainly describes how to install and operate IPCamView software,
configure of IPCamView so as to achieve the surveillance systems recording and
playback function.

The reader of this manual


This manual is suitable for the onsite engineers who install video system,
administrators who do management and maintenance of the system, and ordinary
users who use IPCamView software, also can be reference for other people who are
familiar with surveillance system, computer network, computer with the
corresponding qualifications.

How to read this manual


This manual use the following agreement when describe the object of a specific
interface.
XX means a button, for example if there is Confirmation, it indicate Confirmation
as a button, but not other meaning.
[ ]means menu, for example if there is [File] , it indicate File as a menu.
|means submenu, for example [Edit|Copy], it means copy is a submenu of
edit menu.
In the item column of a dialog box, add underline when quoted, for example Path
(V) means path (V) .

For mouse operation, this manual use following descriptions:


Click: Move mouse to the corresponding object; press the left mouse button once.
Double-click: Fast press the left mouse button twice continuous.
Right Click: Single click right mouse button.

Right-click: Move mouse to the corresponding object; press the right mouse button
once.
Drag: Move mouse to the object, press the left mouse button and hold to move
mouse to the destination then release.
This manual introduces the IPCamView software installation and operation in detail.

Chapter O Hardware Installation


Due to this software is mainly used for IP Camera remote video recording and playback, so no
need to install the hardware again (for hardware IP CAMERA installation, please refer to the
IPCamConf manual).
IPCamView, as client software, can be used with the IP Camera/s with the management server to
form an independent C/S system; it also can be used with NVR to for an independent C/S system.
The condition is you need to obtain the remote login account, password, port and IP address from
your NVR administrator or get your management servers IP address, port, account and password.

Warning: This product has the video and audio monitoring and recording
functions, to avoid infringing the rights of others. Make sure to install and
use within the extent allowed by local law.

Chapter 1 Software Installation


1.1 Installation preparation
Hardware Requirement:
Current PC, with minimum CPU P, 1G RAM, with Ethernet card, speaker (if with
audio monitoring)
Software:
WindowsXP/ Win7
Latest IPCamView software.

1.2 Software Installation


Double-click IPCamView.exe file to start the software installation
Setup dialog box will appear as Fig. 1-1.

Click Next button and go to choose installation path as Fig. 1-2.

The default installation path is C:\Program Files (x86)\ IPCamView (different operating system
may differ slightly). If you want to change installation path, you can modify it directly, or click
Browse button to choose a different path. Click Next to continue as Fig. 1-3:

After installation finished, you will see a dialogue box as Fig. 1-7:

Click Finish button to finish installation. If Launch IPCamView is checked, then the software will
launch automatically.

Chapter 2 Software Operation


2.1 Introduction of software UI
After software IPCamView started, you will see the software UI as Fig. 2-1:

The software UI includes 5 parts: system menu, camera list, video control area, video display area,
and camera information.
a)

System menu: includes five major function modules as Fig. 2-2:

Camera list: lists all the IP cameras which are online as Fig. 2-3:

c)

Video control area (Fig. 2-4): includes PTZ control, video Quality and video Color settings of
the cameras being viewed.

Video Display area (Fig. 2-5): displays the video of the camera/s being viewed. At the bottom
of video display, you can find function icons with which you can operate the screen.
(Remarks: the function icons are different for remote real-time, remote playback and local
playback)

2.2 Software basic operation


If you want to use IPCamView, what you need to do is to Login, with this Login, you dont have
to do any extra configuration for the system.

Login
Click
button on the software main interface, the Login dialog box (Fig. 2-6) will
pop-up, input your Account, Password, Server and Port, then click Login button to proceed to
log in.
You can login multiple servers at the same time.
Attention: If Exchange login servers is checked then when you log in a server the previous
server you already logged in will be replaced automatically; if Exchange login servers is not
checked, then you can log in multiple servers continuously.
During logging in, there will be message in the text box to show your log in is successful or
failure. After successful log in, the logged-in account and all the IP cameras registered in the
account will be displayed in the Camera list (Fig. 2-7).

Account sources

The Account, password, server IP address and port may come from the following 3 different
sources:
From NVR:

a)

When IPCamView is used as NVRs client software, the login account is created in
NVRs user management.

b)

The Port is from NVRs Port of media server in NVRs [System] setting under NVRs
[Config] menu.

c)

Server IP address is the NVRs PC IP address, if it is not a public IP address, then need
to do port mapping.

d)

For example: NVRs authorized account/password is guest/guest, NVRs public IP


address is 000.000.000.000Media server port is 10000. When login IPCamView, input
Account: guest, Password: guest, Server IP: 000.000.000.000port: 10000.

From Registered user in management server:


a)

The Account and Password are the same ones with which you use to log in the
management server, the Server IP address is the management servers IP address (the
default address is China telecom server), and the port is 3478.

b)

For example, you can use guest, guest to login and view camera/s in
http://www.cloudipcam.com, then you can use the same Account and Password to log in
IPCamView like this: Account/Password: guest/guest; Server IP address: TT server
(119.37.196.61), Port: 3478.

Login camera directly:


The default Account is guest, and Password is guest, Server address is the IP cameras IP
address, the Port is the IP Cameras App port which you have already set in the setup
software IPCamConf when you do [Network] setting.

After login
After successfull login you can do Remote real-time viewing, PB from server, PB from local
and download remote video etc. as you want.
(Remarks: PB means playback.)

After the above mentioned steps, IPCamViews basic functions are already available after login
operations. If you need to use more functions or encounter with some problems, please read
further to the following chapters.

2.3 The softwares UI and icons meaning

Icons in Camera list:


Server logged out
Server logged in
Server is logging in
Server login error
Camera group
Camera in normal state
Camera in playing state
Camera is invalid or offline

Icons in video display:

Start to record;

Snapshot, click to take a snapshot for the selected camera, snapshot can be saved
automatically or manually;
Multiple snapshots, ditto, take snapshots of all the cameras displaying;

Video Vertical Flip;

Video horizontal Flip;

Full Screen: play all camera video in full screen; in the case of multiple cameras in
full screen mode, you can double-click of one the cameras and then play it in full-screen
mode. Press ESC to exit full screen;
Change screen layout: to setup how many cameras to display at the same time.

2.4 Remote real-time


After login server, choose Remote in menu bar to view real-time video.

Video Play: you can drag the camera/s in Camera list to video window or double-click a
camera to play video, also you can right click a camera in the camera list and then choose
play to play video.
Many options for right-click to play:

Right-click the logged-in account name to play all the cameras; according to
current screen lay-out, the video area will display the corresponding number of
cameras in the Camera list automatically in an order from top to bottom .
Right-click a group to play all the cameras in the group at the same time.
Right-click a camera to play the camera.

Stop Video playyouYou can drag a camera video window to Camera list or click
to stop playing video playing, also you can right click a camera in the Camera list,
and then select close to stop video playing.

Right click to stop video play is the same as the right click to play video; and in the video
screen you can also right click to stop a video play.

Camera List:

Account right-click menu (Fig. 2-11):


a)

Play: play all cameras, which will not change video screen lay-out;

b)

Add: automatically adjust the screen lay-out, and play all cameras under the
account, if it is more than 64 number of screen lay-out, it needs to do page flip;

c)

Replace: stop previous video play, and play the current selected camera video, it
wont change the screen lay-out;

d)

Close: close all the cameras being played in the account;

e)

Logout: log out the server;

f)

Attribute: the server attribute;

g)

Remove from login scheme: delete account from the login scheme, the account will
not automatically login again after removal;

h)

Remote upgrade: refer to Remote Upgrade

2. Group right-click Menu (Fig. 2-12): the five menus are the same as Account right-click
menu.

Camera right-click menu (Fig. 2-13):


a)

Play: play the selected camera, it wont change the screen lay-out, if theres no
empty division, it will automatically replace the first opened camera;

b)

Add: add and play the selected camera, if free division is available in the current
screen lay-out the camera will be added to the free division; if no free division,
then it will automatically add more divisions to the current screen lay-out;

c)

Close: close the selected camera, it wont change the screen lay-out;

d)

Attribute: refer to Camera Attribute in detail

Blank right-click menu (right click any blank area in the camera list):
a)

Login: equal to upper right login button

Log out all: logout all logged-in accounts in the camera list in one go, but it wont
change the Login scheme.

Show valid cameras:

if checked then offline cameras will not be

displayed.

Video Control
1.

Start/stop record: during real-time video playing click

button, the current video

will be recorded to the local HDD; If you stop the video then recording will automatically
stop.

Page Flip:
a)

Click

button to go to previous page, can flip over to watch the cameras in

previous page.
b)

Click next page button

c)

Click Auto Flip button

to flip to next page;

to enable automatic page flip. The page flip time

interval can be set in Local Configure.

Display Design:
a)

Click Display design button

, and select Display design to go to Display

Choose a Display design, click Save button to save the current display state
(including screen lay-out and cameras) as a display design;

c)

The saved display design shows status, double click it to open the saved display
design;

d)

Get back to the main interface, click

button again, and select a saved display

design to go to the saved display design directly.

4. LAN camera (Fig. 2-15): search and log in all the cameras installed in the same LAN
network. With this function you can search and log in all the IP Cameras in the same LAN without
knowing the IP Cameras IP address.

Remarks: For searching cameras in LAN network, IPCamView cant be used together with
NVR and IPCamConf at the same time.

Camera remote upgrade: click

button to open. Please refer to camera Remote

upgradein details.
6. BookMark Record: during live video watching right-click the video window and choose
[BookMark Record] to start Bookmark Record. Bookmark Record can intercept a fragment of a
real-time video, record time and path can be set in local configure.

Camera information (Fig. 2-16): including Camera name, IP address, Type, serial number, state,
video statistics, etc.

2.5 Remote playback


All playbacks through log-in servers are called remote playback.

Remote playback sources (Fig. 2-167)

Remote video has four sources: NVR recording, server recording, SD card
recording, and NAS recording.
a)

: Auto playback. Automatically select remote camera video source.

b)

: Playback from Server. Cameras have set server video recording, after
clicking this icon, the cameras with server recording will be displayed, and the
playback is also from the server.

c)

Playback from SD card. After clicking this Icon, the camera/s with SD card
recording will be displayed and the playback source is from the SD card.

d)

: Playback from NAS. After clicking this icon, the camera/s with NAS recording
will be displayed and the playback is also from the NAS source.

e)

: Playback from NVR. If login with the account which is configured in NVR, then
the camera/s with recording in the NVR will be displayed and the playback is also from
the NVR.

Remarks: Max. 16 cameras can be viewed at the same time for playback.
Show valid cameras: check it, and then offline cameras will not be displayed.

Remote playback interface


The right-click menu in the camera list is almost the same as those of real-time playing
interface: right-click menu on account does not have Remote Upgrade option; right-click
menu on camera has Download option, for detailed information on Download options, please
refer to the Video Download; the right-click menu in blank space is the same as those in
LiveView mode.
a)

Start/stop video: in Remote playback mode, click icon to start to record the video in
playback and save in the local computer, this record is only effective for camera in
playback process, if the playback camera is stopped, then the recording will stop
automatically.

b)

Play motion only: if camera is set to record motion detection video, click icon, then the
playback will only play video with motion detection for single camera or multiple
cameras;

c)

Speed: playback speed choice: normal speed, 2X speed, 4X speed, 8X speed, 16X
speed, 1/2X slow playback,1/4X slow playback,1/8X slow playback,1/16X slow
playback, play by frame;

d)Video color: Blue


means hour (time) of the video in playback; Green
means the video is motion detection enabled and there are motion events;
Yellow

means normal video;

e) Time: you can choose Date, Hour, Minute, Second to determine the time for video
playback.

2.6 PB from Local


Local playback is to play the video recorded and saved on the local computer Hard Disk. Click
to switch to local playback interface.

Click local path of playback button to go Path setting interface. Click Add button, add video
storage path and then click OK and the program will automatically search all stored recordings in
the selected path and display them all in the camera list.
Right-click menu on camera is the same item in camera list menu (play, add and close) and with
the same operation function. Right-click menu in blank space to open Local Path of playback.
Local playback view control mode is the same as Remote playback.
AVI conversion: by clicking
button you can convert the local recording footage into AVI
format. For more detailed information, please refer to AVI Conversion.

2.7 Camera attribute and Server attribute


In LiveView and Remote playback mode, you can right-click a camera in the camera list to access
its [Attribute] and right-click the account to access the server [Attribute].

Server Attribute:

Up and down arrow: switch an account up and down;

Account information: includes Server name, Type, Account, Server IP, Port and Server
status.

Connection message: IP, Port and Connect type

Local statistics: transfer local data of (FPS) frame rate per second and Band width (BPS)
rate when in real-time view and remote play back;

h)

Server message: Server IP and Port message;

i)

Command connect message: shows IP, Port and Connect Type;

j)

Media connect message: it shows IP, Port, and Connect Type, only available in real-time
view or remote playback;

k)

Extention Info: it shows all the following information when camera online, otherwise it
shows only Offline;

l)

Online or offline: camera will display when it is connected to the server;

m) Support PTZ: cameras that support PTZ will display;


n)

Support remote upgrade: cameras that support remote firmware


upgrade will display;

o)

Support real-time/playback download: cameras that support real-time/playback


download will display;

p)

Support SD card playback: displays when camera with SD card recording;

q)

Support NVS playback: displays when NAS recording is enabled;

r)

Support real-time server forwarding: displays when real-time forwarding server is


online.

2.8 Camera Remote Upgrade


When in Realtime mode, choose[Remote upgrade]from accounts in the camera list or group in the
camera list by right-clicking, or click

icon in the function menu below the view to enter the

camera remote upgrade interface (Fig. 2-223).

Choose FTP server from the drop-down menu, or input FTP server address manually, if not
built-in FTP server, please do not change default settings;

b)

The default Port is 21, input the FTP server login FTP Account and FTP Password, designate
Firmware Path, e.g. /XXX.H264.Image;

c)

Check accounts, camera group or camera in the left-side list;

d)

Click Upgrade button, please make sure that camera is not turned off or unplugged during the
upgrade process otherwise the camera will be damaged.

2.9 Video Download


In remote playback mode, right-click a camera in the list, choose [Download]. The download
function is only available when it is in Remote playback mode, and the camera is not in playback
status.

Click menu [Download] (Fig. 2-235) to enter Camera download Settings interface (Fig. 2-245).
a)

Name: cameras name;

b)

Data sources: there are four types of data sources which depend on video playback
sources;

c)

Status: it will automatically inquires the camera status after the camera download
settings is opened, time inquiry depends on the network status, online camera which can
be downloaded will display as camera status is normal, if not, it will show prohibited
function;

d)

Starting/Ending time: set the starting and ending time for the video to be downloaded
which can be accurate to minutes;

e)

Download motion only: after checked, it will only download event recordings;

f)

Format: choose video format in BIN or AVI format, or choose both at the same time.
When choose both it means to be recorded in both BIN and AVI format. Click OK to

start download. After downloading started, it only can only be stopped in the Download
manager by right-click the camera in downloading process.

2.10 AVI Conversion


In Local playback mode, you can convert the local recording into AVI format which is convenient
for third party player to play by clicking
icon below the video screen to go to AVI conversion
dialog box.

AVI conversion operation steps:


Confirm local record path. Click Local recoding path button to go to Path setting interface, here
you can add all the searched video storage path to convert into AVI format.

After complete adding path, click OK then the software will automatically search all
the cameras under all the paths display them in the camera list;

b)

Set the starting and ending time for the video which needs to be converted and time can
be accurate to second;

c)

Convert to standard AVI files: If checked then the converted AVI file can be played
with the normal H. 264 decoding player but there is no time shown on the video; if not
checked, then you need to install our software in order to play the video normally;

d)

After setting up Path of AVI file storage path, click Start then it starts to convert the
corresponding video file into AVI format;

e)

The maximum size for each AVI file is 2Gb, during the conversion process, if the file
exceeds 2Gb, or if the video image quality changed, another AVI file will be generated
automatically.

2.11 Configure
Click

button on the main interface to go to System setting. System Setup can

configure 7 modules: Local, Login, Download, User, Record, Hotkey and EMap.

2.11.1 Local Configure


Click Configure button on main interfaceenter [System|Local].

Normal setting (Fig. 2-278)Mainly configure the parameters of each functions for the
IPCamView
a)

Select buffer sizeLocal buffering strategies include buffer and no buffer. The purpose
of buffer setup is to enhance the smoothness of the playing image when the network
condition is not good, but the image will be delayed for some time; The bigger of the
buffer zone, the better of video smoothness, at the same time, the buffer time and delay
time will be increased as well; If the network condition is great, then the buffer strategy
can be set to None, this strategy can achieve both video smoothness and ensure the
image real-time;

b)

Path of snapshot How to save snapshot includes Manual and Auto save, the default
path of manual save and auto save is Snapshot path. Auto save is suitable for continuous
snapshots, the images will be saved automatically in the path;

c)

Recording: Set the video Retention (day) and Path of recording video will be kept
based on the retention day in the path of recording, the expired videos will be deleted
automatically;

d)

Storage policy you can choose Overwrite or Stop when full. When selecting
Overwrite, it will start to overwrite if the disk is full or retention time is expired. When
selecting Stop when full, the recording will stop when the disk is full. Overwrite is
recommended;

e)

Auto-flip rate(s) Auto-flip rate time for Remote LiveView is set here, in second unit;

f)

Set port 80The camera has a 80 port, after checking trying port 80the software will

connect the camera automatically through port 80, and other ports wont work under this
circumstance;
g)

PTZ control After Enable PTZ control on video is checked, if the camera has PTZ
function, in LiveView mode, you can use the PTZ function to control the image;

h)

Bookmark record Set up Bookmark record path and Bookmark record time Each
bookmark record will be saved based on the record time and record path which have
been set up in advance.

a)

Startup setting check Start when bootup, next time, IpcamView will be started with
Windows automatically;

b)

Shutdown setting Input Shutdown time, after select Scheduled system shutdowns or
Scheduled system shutdown everyday IPcamView software will automatically shut
down the computer at a predetermined time;

c)

Joystick settingSelect the joystick port at COM port for joystick, click Open joystick
button to open the joystick if check Enable joystick when startup, next time the
joystick will be started with IP CamView automatically.

2.11.2 Login configure


For the convenience of login and to avoid repeated login operations, more convenient way can be
set in Login configure (Fig. 2-2931)

Click Configure on the main interfaceenter [System|Login], click Add, you can add all required
login accounts. The operation is the same as login procedure. After add all accounts, click the
accounts which you like them to automatically log in. Next time all the selected accounts will be
logged-in when open the IPCamView software startup.

2.11.3 Download management


Click Configure on the main interface enter [System|Download]. There are only two buttons:
stop
and stop-all can be operated in Download configuration. To stop the selected single
camera in the camera list, click
button; to stop all the download missions, click (Fig. 2-302).

Only administrator has the permission to add or delete users, there can be only one
administrator, and the administrator user cannot be deleted. So only ordinary users can
be added;

b)

Switch to ordinary user account, ordinary user only can revise their own password in
configuration interface, users can be switched.

2.11.5 Record management


Click Configure on the main interfaceenter [System|Record]. Record management is to process
time management for the video recordings which are saved in the local path, when the local video
recordings are getting more and more, this function can help the user to manage the video
recordings easily (Fig. 2-324).

a)

Click Add to add local video save path to Local recording path;

b)

Click Search, the software will search all the cameras under this path automatically, and
display in the camera list;

c)

The selected camera in the camera list will show records Starting time/Ending time, and
will show Date, Hour, Minute in the checkbox;

d)

Select specified date, hour and minute, click Delete date, Delete hour and Delete minute
can delete the specified date, hour and minute of the record correspondingly;

e)

Click Delete camera to delete all the records under this camera;

f)

After delete specified date, hour or minute in step d), and this camera do not have any
other record, then this step is equal to step e).

2.11.6 Hotkey management


Click Configure on the main interface enter [System|Hotkey]. The Hotkey can set 9 functional
hotkeys to realize opening the function block on the main interface by using hotkey shortcuts.
Select functions in the hotkey list to reset the shortcut, must be a combination of shortcut keys
(ctrlaltshift), Delete button can delete shortcut (Fig. 2-334).

2.11.7 EMap
Click Configure on the main interface enter [System|EMap], choose any camera in the camera
list and then fill in the Latitude and Longitude for the chosen camera. Then click Modify then
click Save to save the Latitude and Longitude setting.

2.12 Other functions:


2.12.1 PTZ control, preset position and scan setup.
Remarks: This section is only for bullet camera, dome cameras with PTZ, only effective in LiveView
mode, and Enable PTZ control on video in [System|Local |Normal setting]

PTZ control In the video screen, click a camera and place the focus on this camera, then
you can start to control the direction, presets and scan through the PTZ control on video
control area (Fig. 2-36).

Left area: PTZ control including PTZ direction control, zoom in, zoom out. Move the
mouse on the button, you can see the corresponding message. (Direction adjustment can
also be operated on keyboard, scene zoom can be operated on mouse wheel);

Right areaincludes focus near, focus far, iris wide, iris narrow, start scan, stop scan,
preset management and schedule tour management;

Bottom area: PT speed slide, and preset select.

Presets Setup and Management: A Preset is the pre-saved point with all the P/T positions
and Zoom parameter. When needed, you can quickly position the PTZ to the point. The
setting procedures are explained as follows (Fig. 2-378):
a) Operate the PTZ to your desired position;
b) Click

Preset management, then the Preset position management dialog box pops up;

c) Select a position in the Preset management list, input a name, click Add to save;
d) Repeat step a)c)you can add multi presets;
e) Click Ok and return to the PTZ control on the video control area, you can select the preset
position in the drop-down box and the camera will quickly position to the point you are
interested.

Tour setup and start/stop a tour Cruise is a camera set path scanning (the cruise path is
composed of presets.). Tour path setup steps as follows:
a)

Click

Sch. Management, Sch. management dialog box pops up (Fig. 2-389);

b)

In the list Tour group, click to choose any group, then choose presets in the preset
drop-down box of upper dialog box, then click Add button. You can add multiple presets

in a Tour group as needed.


c)

Repeat step b) to save more Tour groups, in the Tour group, click to choose any group,
then add start, ending time in the time box of upper dialog box then Click Add button to
add.

d)

Set tour working time range, you can add more than one time range according to your
needs.

Start/Stop auto TourAfter set up multi Tour groups, the camera is still not ready for auto
Tour yet, you still need to:
a) Check Enable schedule tour in the Sch. Management.

In the video control area, click on Video and Color tab, you can go to video quality adjustment and
color adjustment page and set the parameters according to your needs.
