Basic Payment Scheme 2015
The new subsidy scheme is nearly upon us. The build-up has been long and frus-
trating and sadly there is still a great deal of detail to come. The biggest headache
for some is undoubtedly greening, but issues such as active farmer, entitlement
trading, young farmer and the national reserve all need consideration.
For some, little will change but it is vital you consider all the issues now as by next
May, it will be too late and your payments could be lost.
SPECIAL OFFER
We are running a Basic Payment Scheme special offer to assess how prepared
businesses are for the new scheme. This involves a one to one assessment of all
the important issues and particularly focuses on the greening requirements.
We have been visiting numerous businesses and assessing, field by field, what
needs to be done to qualify. This service is being offered at the fixed, discounted
cost of 100 plus mileage for holdings up to 100ha (for holdings above this size a
proportionate increase will be applied).
Please call Charles Daniell on 07814 033449 to discuss your situation if you have-
nt already done so.

Our News

New office
We will soon be moving the office to Green Farm, Queenhill, near Upton-upon-
Severn. There will be more room and better surroundings, with plenty of space to
hold meetings. You are more than welcome to pop in to have a chat and take a
look at the new set up. Please ring to make someone is in!

Agricultural Appeals Panel
Charles has recently been appointed to the Independent Agricultural Appeals Pan-
el. This is a national body that reports directly to the Farming Minister and hears
appeals against Rural Payments Agency and Natural England decisions. This is a
fantastic opportunity to see the workings of the top level of these organisations
and to be able to help adjudicate complex disputes. Its still best to try and avoid
disputes but at least you should have an expert on hand if the worst happens!

Share Farming
An increase in the number of share farming, contract farming and joint venture projects
are being seen across the UKs agricultural economy. Expansion is often seen by some
as the only way to secure a farming future but if this doesnt suit your circumstances,
the solution can be to team up with another business to give both parties the benefits of
a larger scale operation. The CLA have recently launched a campaign to increase the
use of such arrangements, in part to help get young farmers their first foot on the farm-
ing ladder.

What are the options?
There are endless different agreements that can be put in place ranging from contract
farming, joint ventures and profit shares and every situation is unique, so what might
suit one business, almost invariably has pitfalls for the next. A variety of issues such as
tax, land ownership and tenure, employment, retirement and succession need to be
considered to tailor an agreement to the individual circumstances.

What are the benefits?
Share farming agreements are a great opportunity. They can give landowners the abil-
ity to keep an element of control over the use of their holding and maintain a viable
farming business. Whilst at the same time they can offer good start for possible new
entrants and or larger businesses looking to expand their operations.
