GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: The Session
has called a Congregational Meeting for
next Sunday, September 20, immediately
following morning worship. The purpose of
the Congregational Meeting is to hear a
report from the Pastor Nominating
Committee and to take any necessary
actions arising from the report. All Grace
Covenant members are invited to attend.
BULLETIN DEADLINE: submissions for
Sunday’s bulletin must be submitted by noon
on Wednesday, to our Administrative
Assistant, Janice Caldwell, in Room 204 (or

they recover from recent surgeries. Also

WORSHIP
TEACHER COMMISSIONING: Each year a
large number of our own dedicate
themselves to helping us grow in the faith.
This morning we will commission our
teachers and pray that God would give them
everything they need to do what they are
called to do. We ask you to commit

WE INVITE CHILDREN over the age of 5 to
participate in the entire service. Special
Worship Kits for children are available in the
Narthex. For children five years of age or
younger, we also have a crib nursery,
toddler room, and preschool care.
MUSIC NOTES: J. S. Bach is considered the
greatest composer for the organ of all time,
both in the quantity of organ works he
produced, and in their overall quality. His
Toccata in D (Dorian) shows the influence of
Italian concerto grossi with their dialogue
between the full orchestra and a small group
of solo instruments, here played on the main
organ in the chancel and the antiphonal
organ in the balcony. The Chancel Choir
returns this morning from their summer
break, opening the season with an uplifting
anthem by Everett Titcomb. This anthem was
composed for the centennial (1939)
celebration of Christ Church Cathedral in
Houston, Texas. The postlude is the rascally
final movement of Widor’s second organ
symphony, full of riffs and cascades.

 DISCIPLESHIP
CHILDREN’S CLASSES: Man, do our kids ever
have a great time learning to love God with
us! Each year our fantastic teachers give
their time to help our children know the
scriptures, learn to pray, and grow in their
faith. Parents, if you haven’t yet committed
to bring your children to Sunday school this
year, we urge you to do so. It’s one of the
most important decisions you’ll ever make
for your child’s well being!

NEW ADULT CLASSES: This is the perfect time
to commit to growing in new ways this year!
We have four excellent adult classes getting
started; make a decision today about which
one will help you grow in the faith the most.
GRACE BIBLE CLASS: The Grace Bible Class,
as the name indicates, explores many
biblical passages to learn what God has
done for us and how we Christians should
live our lives. This year the theme will be
What God Wants From Me. This theme will
be the guide for several knowledgeable and
talented teachers, who will lead us to a
better understanding of what it means to be
disciples of Jesus Christ. If you like a Bible
based Sunday school class, the Grace Bible
Class is the one for you. Come and join us
each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. in Room
212.
CONNECTIONS CLASS: The Connections
Class is the open to all ages, and is a
discussion-based class which encourages
participation from all. This fall we will be
exploring Paul Miller’s excellent study, The
Person of Jesus. Much of the time we think
of Jesus up in the clouds, but he walked the
earth and experienced life just as we did,
only with far more love, compassion, and
grace. Join us at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday in
Room 303 as we explore what it means to
live as followers of Jesus in this world.
VANGUARD BIBLE CLASS: Fall begins with a
study of the Old Testament books of Esther
and Job, followed by a study of the gospel
of Mark beginning in December.
Esther–Does god help those who help
themselves? Was Esther thoroughly
assimilated to the culture of Persian society?
Learn how God used flawed people to
rescue his people and prepare them for the
coming of Christ, Job–Discover, or
rediscover, the book Martin Luther described
as magnificent and sublime as no other
book in Scripture. We meet in Room B-4;
join us there!
FORUM CLASS: In the Forum Class you will
encounter a variety of studies to help you
grow in faith and live as disciples in this
world. Throughout the year we engage in
topical studies of Scripture, hear visiting
experts speak on such subjects as missions
and world religion, and take up a book to
study. Pastor Richard Haney will be leading
us in September. Join us downstairs in Room
B-7 as we grow together in faith, hope, and
love.
YOUTH CENTRAL: It’s that time of year
again, junior and senior-highers! This is
going to be an amazing year for youth at
Grace Covenant. Join us on Sunday,
September 20 at 4:00 p.m. for our big,
adventurous, thrilling youth group kickoff!
We can’t tell you any more, but we’ll tell you
this much–you better wear some clothes that
can get dirty!
RESOURCES TO GROW IN THE FAITH: Have
you ever searched through the books in the
Christianity section of a bookstore and not
been able to select one? There are so many
titles, and how do you buy with confidence
if you don’t know the author and his or her
theology? The Christian Education
Committee wants to provide access to sound
resources that will help members of Grace
Covenant grow in the faith. The pastors of
Grace Covenant will select books and other
materials to establish a Resource Table for
Grace Covenant. The resources (mostly
books, but perhaps audio tapes and other
media) will be available for purchase at
cost. The Resource Table will be in the
Narthex. Several copies of each
recommended title will be available for
purchase, along with an invoice and an
envelope in which to send payment to the
church office. As the resources are
purchased, additional titles will be added to
the Resource Table. All of the titles will be
vetted by the pastors of Grace Covenant.
The Resource Table will be stocked soon.
Look for the titles that will help you grow in
