A taste of the book; Jyotish Fundamentals, by Visti Larsen.
The extracts include the use of the vimsamsa (d20) chart to ascertain the native’s ups and downs in
spirituality, as well as their capability.
The second part deals with the ascertainment of Guru and the association that one has with the Guru
especially. Some pointers on problems in ones Tapasya are also given.

An extra Shivratri-article is here. It gives a useful and indepth look into the use of the Upasanamsa
(d20) chart to help understand the spiritual evolution in the person.

Dear Vistiji

I would like to know in what context can we see yogas in D 20.What impact Would a Rajyoga
for instance have? Also i saw a grahamalika yoga in a chart involving 6 planets starting from
3rd house having exalted mercury and ending in 8th house having Saturn in moolatrikona. I
suppose it is also important to see Sun. Sun is well placed in 5th house. So can we say that this
yoga could lead to a spiritual transmormation(8th house), due to chanting mantra or guru
updesa(mercury in third in exaltation)?. Also what kind of transormation does saturn indicate?

Dear Viresh, Namaskar

Raja yogas have little or no influence in the D20, unless also presiding in the Rasi chart
itself. Otherwise just a rajayoga in d20 can show popularity in the temple/gathering, but

not anywhere else. Either way it distracts the person from attaining spiritual insight.

Graha malika yogas are important in all vargas as they can take complete control of the
chart and steer the person in the direction of the planet ending the Yoga. In such a case
the end of the yoga in the eighth house is fabulous for learning meditation and also
attaining spiritual transformations. As you have inferred the Sun in the fifth shows Shiva
japa and dhyana causing this.
Saturn indicates transformation through severe and tough penance and rites.

hare krishna,
sir can you please elaborate the role of debilited planets in the d20.
i have lately come across people who have inclination towards the tantras and mahavidya
sadhanas and one thing that i have found is that a neech or debilited venus in trines to d20
lagna.

sir , i thereby request you to guide us how to see spirtuality from rasi and d20 lagnas. thank
you.

हरे राम कृ ण॥
Dear Arnab, Namaskar.
I am very inclined towards the tantras and mahavidya but was not so before i was
initiated into the same. However, i must warn that if Venus is weak/afflicted and
associated with the houses of worship (fifth/nitnth) then Jaimini warns that such people
will worship dark spirits. I.e. such people could be drawn to people who practice some
darker rites.
Its imperitive that such people worship Jupiter and wear a yellow sapphire to make the
’satya’ strong.
Now, any watery influence on the fifth house in rasi or vimsamsa will make the person
inclined towards devi sadhana. In my chart Jupiter is lord of the fifth house and is in a
parivartana with Venus, so i’m very fond of Devi. In the vimsamsa the ninth lord is
Venus hence confirming that the interest arose AFTER initiation/diksha (ninth house) and
isn’t my natural interest. Natural interest is seen from the fifth house and the lord is
Budha showing my natural inclination towards Vishnu.
Hope this helps.
Yours sincerely, Visti.

Dear Visti,
I read through these texts, but still am a bit confused (pardon my lack of intelligence :-)). How
does one interprete placement of Sun with respect to Lagna lord and Jupiter in D-20? What
rules apply?
In my Rasi chart, Lagna lord himself is Sun placed in 10th/Ta, aspected by retrograde Jupiter
in Sag. In D-20, Lagna lord (retro) Jupiter is in 6th (Ta) conjoined with Merc, with exalted Sun
conjoined with Mars in Aries, aspected by exalted Sat in Libra. I’m confused since Sun is 5th

from Lagna but 12th from LL/Jupiter.

Dear DSN, Namaskar.
I didn’t write much about the placement of Sun/Jupiter in the D20.
I was taught to look at the Sun and Jupiter from Lagna in d20. If Sun is in a dusthana
from lagna then the person may not be spiritual or will reject their birth religion. Jupiter
can give wisdom later on if well placed from the lagna.

Yours sincerely, Visti

hare ramakrsna,

dear vistiji,
Thank you for that wonderful reply and hope you will attend to one more querry of mine as
you said if Venus is weak/afflicted and associated with the houses of worship it leads to
worship of dark spirits .As you said the strength of jupiter plays a pivotal role in this .
CAN WE INFER THAT : if jupiter in trines or aspecting the lagna of rasi, navamsa and d20
chart guides the native on the path towards satya.

2]i read inthe above pdf1 that sun position in d20 is also very important.how do we see if an
exalted sun is in 12th house ,please correct me if i am wrong that a 12th house is the house of
dhyana and samadhi and if such a placement is also involved in a parivartana with
4house ..does that reliefs the planet from being in mks….does that also means that 4th house
karaks like mother or a placement of planet in the 4th house and its status in charakaraka
scheme determines how the native is guided in spirtuality….

3]why is it stressed to see sani influence on moon or d20 lagna ..does this leads to
renounciation….

thankyou for all your replies as i find the above two pdfs to be the best of all your
articles .expecting more replies..

your eternal welwisher,

aRNAB

Dear aRNAB, Namaskar.

1) What a question!
Heres how you can use this in navamsa: If Venus is NOT joined 2nd, 5th, 9th, 11th, 12th,
Sagittarius, Pisces or aspected/joined by Jupiter then there is a risk of worshiping dark
spirits. These houses are with reference to Karakamsa, and not navamsa lagna.

2) Exalted planets will override the negatives of their house placement. I think that should

answer your question.

3) Sanyasa yoga should surely be seen in D20 also eh?

Thank you for your cudos.

Yours sincerely, Visti Larsen.
