United Nations Environment Programme

RESOLUTION A-1
United Nations Environment Programme
Shortage of Water

Recalling that The United Nations Environment Programme is alarmed by the world’s water
situation, invites the United Nations to exhort all the nations to consider points that we strongly
discussed in our sessions, like water pollution, desalinization, decontamination and many others,
in order to make a global transformation by the participation and cooperation of all the
governments,

1) Confirms that the education is one of the most important issues, because if people could
have the opportunity to learn how to take care not only of the water, but the entire environment
since their childhood, it would be more suitable for the society to face this problem. For this
reason, we encourage the governments to:

a) Use media in order to educate all the people using communication centers, such as
TV, internet and radio spots, and school campaigns;

2) Requests to high the prices of water, according to each country’s possibilities,

considering the fact that just a few countries could afford to pay more for it. The main purpose of
this point is to get more funds, and from the extra earnings we will distribute the water
internationally to the countries that more need it, with the cooperation of the World Bank,
developed nations

3) Remainds the past points, technological and economical devices and developments
could be easier to reach and distribute equally in all countries with the purpose of cleaning,
decontaminating and distribute water supplies in all countries.
We consider that economical and technological resources are the two main things that some
delegations may need and could be given by international cooperation like industrial programs,
water saving programs and many other to make this resource (water) available to be used by
everyone.
To make this points affordable and possible, we propose to make some campaigns like benefit
concerts.

4) Solemnly affirms that it is important to develop natural water management polices,

national and internationally, that help not only supply, but also manage demand better. To pay
more attention to the management service in water.

5) Emphasizes that human resources should and could be given by developed countries,
un-developed and developing too. We considered that technicians, doctors, investigators,
physicians etc could help together to look for solution to water issues.
Work together with the NGO´s, to make and stronger and mixed group between the
governments and the societies.

6) Strongly condemns the nations to support the programs and campaigns that already
exist, like the International Water Management Institute, United Nations Global Compact, UNEP,
United Nations Development Program and International Health Organization, in order to make
them stronger.

a) To get a better management of all water treatment plants, industrial devices,

improvement of the drainage service in the countries that may need it.

7) Further resolves we consider that all needs of the countries should be discussed as the
necessities raise into a country, and we commit to analyze everyone’s requirements to help and
prioritize the most important ones, according to what all out our countries agree and decide.
